If the hospital thinks the person treated has the resources to pay the bill if they're chased? Allow me to express my doubt that you're right. They may well not try to chase the indigent but I'm quite sure they'd go after people capable of liquidating assets to cover the cost. You're telling me that if I were holidaying in the US with no travel insurance and presented to ER after a traffic accident I'd not subsequently have to pay the bill? You can't be serious.
