Re: Oliver North's open letter to John Kerry

I have a friend named Leo who did go into Cambodia with during the Viet Nam war. And his unit did a number of things, like killing unarmed men, that could be described as attrocities. And I have a friend named Lowell who recalled some of the cruelties his unit committed when they suspected villagers of harboring VC.

Most soldiers served honorably but there's no denying that operations like the Phoenix Project were essentially terrorist operations. Some soldiers did rape young girls and cut off the ears of VC. There are always war criminals in every war.

The NVA and VC were not averse to torturing and terrorizing villagers and we know what they did to our POWs. It's easy to see why some of our guys would engage in vicious reprisals.

John Kerry should not have made such an unfair generalization about our troops in Viet Nam and I'm sure he regrets much of what he wrote as an angry young man. He should apologize.

But Oliver North is the last person who should be accusing another soldier of treason and demanding that he apologize. When has North aplogized for his traitorous crimes? He should be in prison, not on talk radio.
