I dont know if it proves whether we have a soul/spirit or not but it occurs to me I have a conscience, that allows me a process where I determine moral right and wrong, and that component has a major decision making part of my 'will' my volitional will is what I call my soul more than anything. Its different from animals because their will is based on instinct only.
Whether an animal has a soul or not I still think we ought to be decent to them, but then again I have to say when man needs them for food we need to use them as humanly as possible.
