Re: A woman has the right to choose...
I've always thought that abortion was killing a human being, and that killing a human being is always wrong. But sometimes society sanctions killing. We kill in war. We kill in self defence. We kill sometimes judicially, like electrocuting a murderer.
What makes choices difficult is that sometimes one has to select not just from clearly right and clearly wrong, but from a selection of wrongs. I know several women who have had abortions. None of them did it with a light heart. I've always been extremely glad I've never been in a position where I had to make a decision like that. I doubt whether I could ever have gone through with it. But I don't know for sure. How can anyone know for sure unless they are in the shoes of a woman poor enough, tired enough, distraught enough to consider doing something so totally against her natural instinct? While I can say I am against abortion, in principle, I could never presume to stand in judgment against any of my sisters who went ahead with an abortion, nor wish them back into the grubby hands of the old backstreet butchers. |

Re: A woman has the right to choose...
I believe in abortion for the right reasons, after being raped, a girl who is still a baby herself, a woman who cannot support a baby.
and to those who should know better...there are many ways now to avoid becoming pregnant...and it is no longer just up to the woman to make sure it doesn't happen. my belief is why bring an unwanted child into this world....we already have enough of them with families that abuse their children. |
