Cats

Any fellow cat lovers out there? What breeds and/or color of cats do you like, and do you have any yourself?
I have two cats...and they are great companions for me.

Re: Cats

I have two kitties... Mona is some kind of tortiseshell mix and Micelli is the spawn of Satan.... Mona was thrown (literally) into my boyfriends pet store one day... and I found Micelli and his two sisters Jessica and Isabella in a boot box by the dumpster at work... Jess and Is live with a friend of mine now... should have gotten rid of Micelli too, evil thing, but we fell in love with him before he showed his true colors.... we got our dog Flipside the sameway we got Mona.

Re: Cats

Thanks for sharing your photos and stories with me...here is one of mine...

In 1990, I had a beautiful copper eyed black cat that resembled the Bombay breed. His name was Michael and he was just two years of age. This cat was very fond of me and followed me everywhere, just a very loving, affectionate, sweet cat.
Anyway, he got really sick and it was so suddenly, too.... I took him to the veterinarian and the vet told me that he had jaundice...that his liver was in pretty bad shape. This cat was only two! The vet gave me no promises, but did tell me that for now he would simply sedate Michael and let him sleep....in the morning the vet would go to work on him.
That night, very late, actually, around 2:30 a.m., I awoke and told my husband that Michael was dead. My husband assured me that there is no way I could know this, and that Michael was at the animal hospital sleeping. I told my husband again that Michael was indeed dead...and I had The Beatles song, "I'll Follow the Sun" lyrics in my mind at the time, too..."and now the time has come, and so, my love, I must go. And though I'll lose a friend, in the end you will know. One day you'll find that I have gone. For tomorrow may rain so I'll follow the sun..." To this day everytime I hear this song I think of my beloved cat, Michael.
The next morning I called the veterinarian to ask about Michael. He told me that he had bad news...Michael died. I asked him, just out of curiosity, approximately what time Michael died. He said around 2 a.m. Since I awoke so closely to that time, my face dropped....in shock. I then told my vet about the way I woke up, and at what time, and that I felt that Michael had died.
The vet told me that since I was very close to this cat, it didn't surprise him one bit...that perhaps Michael's spirit came to me to say "Goodbye".
A strange story for some, I know, but this is true...it happened.

Re: Cats

Hi...we have 3 cats in our household....Oliver, Darcy & Mamma Kitty AKA Moose. Oliver looks like a Siamese, Darcy is solid black & petite. They were litter mates, believe it or not. The mother was a gray striped tabby. I think although they may have been born at the same time, they had different fathers. Mamma Kitty is now 17. When we got her 4 yrs ago (a co-worker couldn't keep her), she was very fat, hence the name Moose. She is now svelte & gorgeous.

Re: Cats

Thanks for sharing that, stony moss. It reminds me of a female black and white cat I had years ago...she had four kittens in the same litter, and one in particular stood out....this cat was not just black and white, like the others...this one had some orange in him.
I asked the veterinarian if it was possible that there could be more than one father (my cat at that time was one who went outdoors), and he assured me that there can definitely be more than one father.
I then remembered having seen a ginger/marmalade tabby in the back at some point and I guessed that he was most likely the father of that one odd colored kitten. (the other father was black and white like my female).

Re: Cats

I have had cats all my life. One I have now is Lilly-she is about 11 or 12 years old-was a stray someon dropped off. My neighborhood is great for that-move and leave cats behind or drop off the kittens. We had a cat we called Green eyes-a tom cat feral-let us pat him now and then-hung around area for almost 8 years, got torn to shreds by 2 pit bulls-thought he was dead and showed up 6 weeks later-he died a year later on neighbors door step-probably pneumonia-was too wild for anyone to catch. Then the Humane Society quit trapping the cats-no $ so everyone tried to leave water or food out but they multiplied and got killed by the dogs in area-people in this area train their pit bulls to attack cats. For years no more strays until about a month ago-now have 2 pregnant ones meowing on my patio-it is a safe house-gate is locked-no pits get in-leave water and a lil bit of food but now have tons coming in-taking the tame one in a cage and calling animal shelter-cannot catch the others and animal control will NOT come out unless they are in a cage or box. I feel so bad for these poor cats-no one seems responsible anymore!

Re: Cats

My friend has a male black Persian...I have never seen a cat so calm in my life as this one. No matter what is going on around him, he doesn't fuss at all...just sits there and takes it all in his stride.

Re: Cats

I have one cat, her name is Abby. She is mostly black with white paws and a bit of white sprinkled on her face.
She is absolutely the most loving animal ever!!
She is always following me around, waiting for me to sit so she can jump up in my lap or lay next to me so that I can pet her, she purrs incessantly.
I found her at the local ASPCA, she was left in an abandoned home by a family with her siblings, she was the last of the litter left at the SPCA.
She was very shy at first but after a few days she came out from under the couch and claimed my home as her own.
Complete strangers (to her) have come to my home and she treats them as if they were long lost family. She is too funny.

My niece is encouraging me to get another cat. Does anyone know how well cats that have been alone adjust to another one being brought into the home?
I have had her for 3 years and she has been an *only child* the entire time. I am afraid I will step on her toes if I bring another one home.
