Networking

I've been attending a career transition workshop at a local church. Church members who are successful managers and executives teach a program they purchased that helps craft resume's, polish interviewing skills, and build networking skills. It didn't occur to me until a relatively unrelated private message (PM) from our beloved Bez, that I'm ignoring a huge part of my network - my fellow Gardeners.

Guys, I've been trying to get back into the training field for over a year now. As those who've been here awhile (and those history/research nuts may have found out by reading past threads) know, I've had a couple of really fulfilling adventures - most notably my time helping the Katrina evacuees - but adventure generally doesn't pay very well.

So I'm posting my resume', sans personal information, in the hope that it will resonate with someone and make a career connection. Yes, I'm willing to relocate for the right offer, even internationally.

Please, I'm not looking for a career change. Teaching children simply doesn't appeal to me, and I will probably do some adjunct work with a local college, but training is what I truly want to do for the next 20 years.

So please check this and let me know if you can give me a lead or, even better, an introduction to a decision-maker.

Have you checked out the "job opportunities" on select bases? Randolph AFB is the center for job locations nationwide and I'd be happy to get you the link to search for jobs.

Re: Networking

How about being Self Employed ?

Here at B&W we use several different forms of training....Internal (use our own people with specific skills), College, Specialist (ST Johns for first Aid) and External Training Providers

Some work entirely on their own, and some as a partnership...say 3 or 4 sharing an office each with their own specialised skills.

I have recently run a 2 year Personal Development Programme using a guy who ran 'Workshops' on a multitude of topics. These were very informal and interactive and were a huge success.

I know this can be a VERY lucrative business if successful.

I really loved this sentence ACC:-

Team-focused professional passionate about training and leadership development. Skilled in converting reluctant learners. Makes training fun and relevant. Can make leaders of managers.

Re: Networking

I've studied your Resume over my lunch break and you have been involved in a number of very diverse areas.

Is there any ONE that you preferred more than any other.....practical skills, leadership skills, general development ?

Is there a particular 'business type' that attracts you...retail, manufacturing, service ?

I'm sorry, but I have no knowledge of the 'job market' in the US....feel really useless actually but there seems to be other 'gardeners' that can cover that area.

I started my training career in leadership development; very satisfying knowing that I'm helping not only the team leader, but the team as well (not to mention increasing productivity, retention, profit margin, etc etc). I speak about leadership and responsibility as I write - with great passion and enthusiasm.

Personally, I love any kind of face-to-face customer interaction (yes, I'm insane), so it's fun to teach customer service techniques to keep the customer calm until we can not only satisfy, but thrill him/her.

Is there a job where I can just sit down with a person or group, help define goals, and set about attaining them? That's the job for me. Of course, doing it for an employer and a steady paycheck is a requirement of my risk-averse beloved.
