They are made with chocolate, and look like little meatballs. Here is a recipe:

ITALIAN MEAT BALL COOKIES

1 c. vegetable shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. milk
5 c. flour
3 eggs
5 tsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. cloves
1 tbsp. nutmeg
3/4 c. baking cocoa
1 c. nuts (opt.)
1 c. chocolate chips (opt.)

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs; then add vanilla and milk. Add flour, baking powder, cocoa and spices. Add nuts and chocolate chips. Roll dough into balls the size of walnuts and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes in a 375 degree oven. When cookies are cool, frost with glaze.

GLAZE:

3 tbsp. butter
3 c. confectioners' sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Add enough warm milk as needed to make glaze into a runny consistency
