awful to say but it is not so unusual. When I used to volunteer with code enforcement you would not believe the cases we got. One guy lived in this motel for 7 years and never left it-he had green mold growing all over the walls and ceilings and floors. Another one had to have haz mat go it-older couple-husband could not walk, wife was dementia-entire house was 2 feet deep in human feces. When neighbors finally reported the smell, they contacted the daughter-she didn't give a darn when they were alive, but once dad died and they took mom out and she died shortly later, the daughter was there going thru all the jewerly and expensive items as the city haz mat was cleaning it out the crap-you could smell it a block away! And as all these Volunteers are in haz mat gear-she is outside sorting out all the jewerly-I wanted to shove her back into the house and tell her-Heh-you smell it now-how many times the city contacted you and you wanted nothing to do with your parents-untill the money rolls in!

It's mind boggling to think about how a person can let themselve's become so disenthused with life to endure an existence as the aforementioned.

ya it is really sad that no one cared enough to force some intervention. I can see fighting with her about the weight-but surely someone could see she grew into a couch-literally!I mean-as soon as I saw she was growing into the couch-heck I would have called social services, elder abuse, some type of hotline to have someone intervene. After all if they sent someone over it isn't like she could throw them out-she was stuck on the couch-how difficult could it be?
