Join the Army, Navy and see the world? It will make a Man of you? What!
Most Western Armies, including the United States Marine Corps, most glamorous fighting outfits are not taking in young men like they used to.
Officials say recruits have been put off by heavy casualties in Iraq and other war zones.
Many of us, and our grandfather's joined up for three to five years when we left school or college. It was a chance to see the world for free, meet lovely girls in far off islands. But the kids today are just not interested.

Some armies are paying bonuses of up to $30,000 to trained veterans to stay on rather than leave.

I have a newphew that just joined the Army. He is in North or South Carolina. Then my niece wants to join the air force. We have a military family.

Even my 4 year old daughter has mentioned going into the air force. We live about 1 mile from the Military Base here in AZ. I love Miltary they are so good to you!

I joined up for four years during the Korean War rather than be drafted. I joined primarily because they were offering to pay for college and gave cheap home loans to veterans and other lesser benefits. It was one of the best things I ever did. Got to see the world, Asia, Europe and Africa. Last thing I ever thought of was getting killed. Hey at 17, you're going to live for ever, right?

Discrimination, this is also for women too? When i married my husband, it was understood if it did not work out, i would go to the army. The oldest age for the army is 35? Well i'm a bit late, i am serving anyway daily.

I have the utmost respect for the Armed Forces past, present, and future, but it is not something I want for my children. While I realize that is their choice, I just can't stand the thought of worrying day after day while they are in some foreign land. I hate the thought that in 8 months my son has to register for the draft. I work with veterans every day. I hear the stories. It scares me. My dad was in the Air Force and my sister in the Army Reserves but that is all the military members in my family.
