Endangered species
Hi, I'm Steve Daniels and I run a web site called Little Lemur. I found this site when searching the Internet for readers groups. The Little Lemur site raises money for the conservation of endangered species by selling fiction on line. The site also has regular discussion topics on conservation related issues. I hope you don't regard this intro as spamming I'm only trying to make people aware of our existence so please give us a visit.
Thanks and all the best, Steve Daniels www.littlelemur.com |

Re: Endangered species
Thanks, I'm sure I will.
Here is our latest environmental discussion on Little Lemur (minus the vote counter). Maybe some forum gardners would like to share their views, either here or on the Little Lemur site: With sea ice around the North Pole shrinking the Polar Bear is losing its hunting grounds. By the year 3000 the ice (and the polar bear) could be gone. So the Greenland Tourist Board's response? Introduce Big Game hunting. So called sportsmen can pay around £10,000 to go and shoot a polar bear and take his skin back to make into a rug. As Nick Baker, presenter of the BBC's Really Wild Show, says "What kind of sport is hunting Polar Bears anyway? - they're hardly difficult to spot". The Greenland tourist board defend their actions claiming that they are working with biologists and that numbers will not be affected. Sorry, am I missing something here? If I have 20 polar bears and I allow hunters to shoot 5 do I still have 20 polar bears? I don't think so. Is the Greenland Tourist Board's policy acceptable? Vote here and post your thoughts in our chat centre. All the best Steve http//:www.littlelemur.com |

Re: Endangered species
I love to hunt. That being said I also beleive that there has to be protection of the resourse of wildlife. If a species is endangered, is it not common sense leave it be. I would love to hunt a polar bear. Just for the fact that they hunt you back. thrill of the hunt. It would be selfish to abuse a species to the point of extinctinction. The Earth is a small place being the dominant species on Earth, we have rights over lesser species, but with that right comes responsabliity. We humans have the abliity to learn from our mistakes. Remember what happened to the buffalo, do we realy want the Polar bear species to travel the same path?

Re: Endangered species
Thanks for your comments Enuf. I think that the majority of hunters have a respect for endangered wildlife but unfortunately not all of them. As for your point about polar bears being able to fight back: they're at an unfair disadvantage, surely? I've never seen a polar bear on a skidhu with a high powered rifle!

Re: Endangered species
Steve I don't want to come across as a crazy, but remember what I said about being the dominant species on Earth and responsibilitys. I should have been more specific on the responsibility part.
An exelent correlation to the high powered rifle and a snow machine sienario, is there are mokeys in the world that will use a wet stick, stick it into an ant hill and eat the ants off the stick. Viewed strictly at the domminant species aspect of it all. If the ant that the monkey was eating was going extinct would we as higher beings be saying bad monkey for using a tool. No , because we have the ability to realize that the monkey is acting in its bounds as a species to fullfil a need. In some people we have the need or desire (what ever you choose) to hunt ,evolutionary instincts of an earlier time. We as a species should not feel guilty of using our superior intelect, and the creation of mechanicalized tools, against the other species of the earth. But should feel guilty when we abuse the the other species. Such as drive them to extinction. Witch I would find it very hard to see the logic in. I find it hard to take the stance of a superior being and judge humans for being humans. We as a species will evolve as will all others. with the grace, patience, and input of all hopefully our evolvolution will take course witch will survive the scrutiny of people in the future. Be clear in what I am trying to say be responsible as a domminant species, realize that future generations may want to enjoy the resourse of wildlilfe. We should not feel guilty with hunting witch results in the killing of an animal, but should feel guilty if the killing of the animal results in the extinction of an animal. One must ask themselves what is realy bothering them the hunting and the use of superoir tools, or the killing of the animal. If it is the use of tools, deevolve, I'm sure no one will protest. If is the killing of the animal look at what we as humans use other animals on Earth for. Food and many other products come from those poor animals, whom without we would not at present survive without. Or is it just the fact that you don't agree with hunting alltogether? I hope I put my thoughts on the issue at hand across clear Enuf. Reply. Diffrence of opinion. Spice of conversation. |

How many species have been de-listed since the endangered species act was enacted? How many listed. Do you think this is a good track record? If so, Why?

2) Not enough 3) No Sorry I can't give a fuller reply but I'm just off to the White Mountains of Crete in pursuit of a Kri-Kri (which is listed). Steve ![]() |
