cashing in on terrorism

The war on terrorism has been a boon to the security business but it's also spawned a new breed of bounty hunters.

Mercenaries from a number of Muslim countries have joined the hunt for al-Queda and other wanted terrorists hoping to reap huge rewards for their capture

The bounty hunters are mostly Arab, Afgan, Pakistani, and Indonesian, and they're able to easily blend in with local cultures. In addition to putting pressure on al-Queda they're also providing CIA with valuable intelligence on the ground (HUMINT) that wouldn't otherwise be available.

This certainly qualifies as the world's most dangerous job.

And for the terrorists, these mercenaries are turning into the world's most dangerous mob.

Let's hope so. It would be difficult to find a place on Earth to hide if you had a $10,000,000 price on your head. Maybe that's why we haven't had another attack in the U.S....The terrorists are probably too busy running from safe harbor to safe harbor to plan anything.

I'm afraid that these miserable cretans are just waiting. Biding their time. Getting their ducks in a row.

Where do you think they will line up the ducks? Attacks on major targets or soft ones? Attacks on structures and facilities or specific individuals?

Al-Queda is known for it's patience but a lot of time has passed since 911. Will they attack in the near future, before the election?

Re: cashing in on terrorism

My view is that the terrorrists will definitely do something before the election if they have any sense at all. It's their best chance at really disrupting American life, and flexing their muscles.
On the other hand, your war on terror might have indeed proven effective enough to eliminate any real terrorrist threat, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

ipete23,

Yes, it really makes you wonder what's going on. Are they waiting or have our counter-measures been working?

Homeland Security will never stop the big one. There stirring everyone up with their announcements only play into the terrorist's hand and shut down our economy. These people believe it is the wish of their God to die in JIHAD. It took a half a lifetime for the Japanese to not think it holy to die and adjust to a democratic way and today they have a good life. It will be another half lifetime to deliver this pleasure to the current group of rabble rousers. So don’t wait to be the next victim, kick back and enjoy every minute. Life is short.

America will survive terrorism, but American civil liberties may not.

I agree that eternal vigilance in the war on terrorism only goes so far and that it will have economic consequences. Let's not live our lives in fear and let's not let our government cow us into cooperating with the dismantling of our Constitution.

You are right on. Harry Hudini farther of slight of hand and other illusions once said, “never let the right hand know what the left hand is doing.” Politicians are masters of this theory. With huge smiles they guarantee us they are working on our behalf while making deals with another PAC. Do not allow the dismantling of our Constitution this is what makes us great.
