addicted to the board
For the past week I've been getting some financial statements in order and doing some general ledger work and I've been on the computer constantly switching form one screen to the other. I've found that I can multi-task fairly well and follow what I'm doing while I post. But I''m getting a little worried that I might be getting addicted to posting like kids get addicted to video games. I haven't been out all day except to empty the trash and summer is short in the North land.
Oh, well. I think it's cool to be a part of a start up enterprise like this and I hope it starts picking up speed. |

Re: addicted to the board
Right on, plazul. The only way for ForumGarden to grow is by posting a lot and making a lot of threads! (And of course, telling your friends about it)

Re: addicted to the board
It's all good. This forum has more activity than a lot of places have after being "in business" for a year. Not bad after 2 weeks.

Re: addicted to the board
I'm a CPA (not in practice) , among other things, and being on this board makes the forensic audit I'm currently doing for a friend's business a lot less tedious and it sharpens my brain. I can spot things, like accounting gimmicks, that I wouldn't have seen if my mind wasn't cranking. I was up until midnight last night and when I went to bed I was still fresh.
Yeah, I've been deliberately churning out as many posts as I can to get this started. Good boards are really hard to find, especially ones without a lot of vulgarity. |

Re: addicted to the board
Thank you for all the kind words and great efforts. There are some wonderful discussions now taking place. All of this has been accomplished in a very short period of time.
We did not really expect to see much activity for a couple of months. We thought it would be refreshing to have a forum that was friendly, had diverse topics, and catered to a group of people who liked this kind of environment. We still have a ways to go, but with your help and a little patience, FG will continue to improve. Thanks! |

Re: addicted to the board
i can't say that i'm addicted to posting, but i am definitely habituated.
really though, my posting habits have always been in fits & starts. i go through little creative/thoughtful bursts, where i post relentlessly for hours or even days - then my brain says "back off!" and i don't post for a while. i've been on the internet since 1986, and started on the grandmother of all internet 'chat' boards, The Well. in fact, i just closed my account there last month, after eighteen years there. that's a whole adult person!! but now look where i am. back searching for things to talk and think about. okay, first step to healing: hi, my name is paul, and i'm a forumaholic. ![]() |

Re: addicted to the board
Wow. I too have been around computers since the late 70s but other for most of my life other people operated them for mundane business tasks. I only used the PC for numbers work and documenting. When I got on the web all I did for the longest time was download dry documents (taxes, legal, academic) and read newspapers and journals. I've only recently started posting in forums on news sites.
I have a lot more time now especially with my injured leg and ankle. I'm not getting around much. Plus, I recently split the sheets and I'm living alone with two cats. Perfect time to let off steam on this board. |

Re: addicted to the board
18 years?! That is quite a long time. Your avatar could be a teenager/young adult now!
Have you ever figured out how much money the subscriptions were over 18 years? Did the Well send you a gold watch? Quote:

Re: addicted to the board
Well it is better then smoking or drinking to much.
Tried to buy a beer yesterday but due to a local crack down on places not checking ID a 35 year old feed his cafeene addiction. And I am subing these forums for a video game addiction. Have not played Helix since scoring 300K plus. After having such a wonderful game I would just be frustrated to go back to a 50K game.
