SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Jury selection is expected to start Monday in the trial of beauty queen Nicole Redmond who admitted firing the shot that killed boyfriend Kevin Shorter.

But the jury will have to detemrine if the 2003 Miss Savannah fired the shot in a jealous rage or in self defense. Redmond has been charged with the murder of Shorter on Dec. 16. 2003.

Her attorney, Michael Schiavone, said Redmond pulled the gun because she was threatened.

Shorter had dated Redmond since she was in high school and had given her an engagement ring.

But Shorter also had given a ring to Rachel Hall.

Hall says Redmond learned in 2003 that she was also dating Shorter.

Hall says Shorter became angry when he found Redmond talking to her.

According to Hall, Redmond got into her car and began backing out of the driveway, while Shorter walked to his own car. Hall said she went back inside the house, then heard a gun shot.

Redmond fired from her car window and drove away. The bullet scraped Shorter's car, struck him in the right buttock and passed through his upper thigh, piercing his femoral artery.

Police Detective Frank Chisholm previously testified that she said she didn't aim it at him and did not think she shot him.

Shorter died three days after the shooting.

The Miss Savannah pageant never revoked Redmond's crown, at least not publicly. Citing negative publicity surrounding the shooting, organizers canceled the pageant last year.

This year, the pageant has a new name -- it is called Miss First City

Sounds to me like pre-meditated murder triggered by jealousy. Definately not justifiable to take a life. But let the courts decide.

Ah, plea bargans,...seems like an insult to the victim. His death will go down as a result of trying to harm this woman. Simply not right.

I agree polycarp. This case is local for me. I live close to Savannah.
