Crashing the convention

I think it's a pretty good bet that, in spite of all the preparation, there will be lots of violence and disruption at the Republican convention in New York. I predict that it will be worse than expected and that riot police will over react. The NYPD has been on edge since 911 and I think they will take it out on the demonstrators.

The Police Commisoner says his force his ready to make a thousand arrests a day if necessary but there will probably just be dispensation of street justice in most cases, something that is sure to fuel the partisan fire from both sides.

I oppose violent demonstrations and I'm really afraid that this will be another 1968. Do the anarchists and other rioters really think they are helping to unseat George Bush with such behavior? As a nervous Democrat, I'm afraid that they will have the opposite effect on the voters.

Violent rioting by Democrats and leftists isn't going to look to good on the party of donkeys and blue collars. Peaceful protest will do a whole lot more good. Let the people see that Bush administration is trying to surpress our freedom of speech.

Re: Crashing the convention

ya know.....this is a good argument you guys are sharing.

how exactly do you get your point across, stand up for yourself and exercise autonomy and not violate laws, all at the same time? :confused

Do you riot and overpower govt. inst.? Is our manpower enough?
is being silent effective enough? i've never heard sheep mouth off.

It seems like we're losing our individual rights everyday.
I'm 21 and terribly worried as to what lies ahead of me, in another length of my life to come.

Re: Crashing the convention

Organized protest and civil disobedience does draw media attention but I think the best way to get the message out is good old fashioned advertising (letters to the editor, etc.) and public education.

And of course, the ultimate way to protest is to vote.
