Niagara Falls

A few weeks ago I went with my mom and sister to visit my aunt in Michigan. During the week we were up there, we decided to make a trip to Niagara Falls. We went in through Canada since it is only four and a half hours away from her house. We stayed one night. We got a GREAT view of the Falls from our hotel room. Seeing it up close is even better! It's spectacular. If you are going to go, go see it on the Canadian side, NOT the American side. To get into Canada, you only need a photo ID and your birth certificate. You will not get a very good view on the American side. There are a lot of attractions in the area if you have kids who get bored easily. We all had a blast up there! I am definitely going to go back again.

Hi Porpoise..

I'm from Michigan and just minutes from the international Blue Water Bridge over to Sarnia, Ontaria, Canada. I have travelled to Niagara Falls several times throughout my life. One of my favorite places to get away. If you get a chance to go back, check out Niagara Falls Village, Zoo and horticulture building. Also, there is an entertainment area close to the falls where you can walk the town and take in the sites, restuarants and entertainment.

I love going at the end of summer when the weather is cooler, but all the beautiful flower gardens are still in full bloom. There's always something different that we find each time we go. A spectacular site even in winter. Did you see the light show over the falls? I agree, the best view is on the Candian side.

Re: Niagara Falls

Hello,

It was really interesting reading about your trip to Niagara. My husband and I would love to visit there someday, as my Great Grandfather lost his life going over Niagara falls in a barrel. He did this as a bet on 13th July 1920. I believe that there is a plaque to commemorate this nearby. He did a few hair brained (he was a gents barber) things in his time, you know, his head in a lions mouth, parachuting and always for a good cause.

We'll take note of the comments on your trip for the time when we go.

Thanks

Twink

I think I saw the documentary on TV one time. There have been others who actually survived going over the falls.

If you ever need further information about vacationing to the falls, give me a shout. I have a toll free number that you can get lots of info from. Just a tip ~ make motel reservations before your visit. We learned the hard way and had to drive all the way back home one time. Its a good thing we don't live to far away.

I would definitely recommend the boat trip on the Misty Maiden that takes you next to the falls. Its awesome.

Re: Niagara Falls

There's a beautiful, quiet, off-the-beaten-track town a few miles from the Falls. It's called Niagara On The Lake. We stayed there a few years ago and it made a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of Niagara itself if you want a little peace and quiet.

Re: Niagara Falls

Thats the name of it! Niagara on the Lake. Its like a small quaint village full of little shops and restuarants.

We also liked the Hard Rock Cafe and casino, Planet Hollywood, and the Hershey's factory.

Re: Niagara Falls

dating myself here
I was to Niagra on my honeymoon way back when and you used to be able to go down some tunnels and look at the falls from the inside of the rock looking from the back side, but I believe they have since been closed for various reasons.
Maid of the Mist boat trip was awesome The entire area was lovely. Would love to go back again one day.

Minks -- I believe you are talking about "Journey Behind The Falls"... and it is an attraction that is still open. My sister was just there a few months ago and did the tour.

And I hear from EVERYONE that The Maid of the Mist boat ride is a MUST DO!

I am excited to find this Thread -- we're planning on going to Niagara Falls this summer. I know it'll be the busiest/touristy time to go... but it is the only time we'd be able to make the trip this year. I've done so much "research" on the internet.. I almost feel as tho I've already been there!! LOL My husband and I would love to go ourselves sometime.. (it's only about a 6 hr drive for us).. but this time it'll be family thing -- 2 small kids will be in tow. Since they are so young I am a bit concerned there won't be much for them to do/enjoy... but I'm sure we'll find enuff.

I'm glad to hear that Niagara-on-the-Lake is really as nice as it seems... that is one place I'd like to visit. Also St. Catharines.. which is nearby to N-O-T-L.... Anyone ever go there??

Has anyone gone to MarineLand while in the Niagara Area?? It looks amazing... we're hoping to go there... I think that'd be some place we'd all enjoy alot.

Any other ideas or places to "be sure to see"... Let me know! I'm open to and appreciate any and all suggestions!
(BTW -- we'll be going in July sometime)
