America's hidden drug problem

As America fights the war on illegal drugs prescription drug addiction is growing strong. Millions of people are hooked on benzodiazapine products like Valium, Xanax, Ativan, etc. and narcotic products such as Demerol, Vicodin, and Oxycontin. New diet medications like Meridia are also being abused and sold on the street.

Withdrawal from narcotics can be fatal and some chemical dependency experts say that the the physical withdrawal from Benzodiazapine is as bad as heroin, though rarely fatal, and the psychological withdrawal may be worse.

Certain federal agencies are proposing the creation of a national data base on prescriptions for controlled substances in order to curtail prescription abuse by physicians and drug seeking by users with multiple prescriptions for addictive drugs. New measures are also being taken to stop illegal traffic in addictive prescription drugs.

Do you know somebody with a prescription drug problem? Would you support stricter controls on the distribution of addictive substances?

I would support putting strict control on addictive medication. It's supposed to help you, it won't help if you become addicted to it.

i would strongly support it. drugs are used as a crutch not as a permanent helper.

Angry Re: America's hidden drug problem

I posted a thread a couple of days ago and there are so many threads I can no longer locate it. But that is not a complaint more a bravo. But I suggested our legislators were in bed with organized crime there is no way to convince me otherwise. I live a slow 5 minute walk from the North Gulf waters and there is plenty of illegal activity here. The Law (if you’ll pardon the expression) races around with press on hand, busting crystal methadone labs at a rate of 2 or 3 a month. Occasionally they find some hash and possibly a kelo of crack floating in the Gulf. They then go public about what a great Drug Bustin job they pursue.

They bust meth labs in the trunk of a car, motel, travel trailer and garage. Why? ‘cause these dealers and mixers are stupid, plentiful and have no connections. They are sitting ducks. When some stupid guy raises a small field of grass they bust him/her for the same reasons. All for show and to prove to the uninvolved, complacent constituent, they wage an all out ferocious program on drugs. They post signs at school zones NO DRUGS ZONE and appoint czars. That does a lot

Tell me when was the last meaningful real Drug bust. Occasionally the big dealers give up some insignificant soldier in the middle, nothing more. All to redirect us from the real problem. Look at the unbelievable campaign money being raised in a heartbeat. Just 1 example, could this be a form of laundry?

Re: America's hidden drug problem

well...i can assure you that as long as there's a high to be desired, there'll be a drug to be sold.

As for connections, how can you get the "Big guy" when the Big guy is who is after the big guy. CONFUSED? you should be. that's how you- the taxpayer is aided to view things.

(this is why i believe we had such a rebelious, ass-kickin attitude around in the late 60's - late 70's. the vets that came back, experienced what a crock of **** they'd be set up for, and had learned enough about the "Game" to have the confidence to rebel against a system that tries to coerce you with fear.)

I'm sure i'm goin to get blasted out of the water here, but i'm willing to risk it for my own education- Through lots of loose information i've come across, it appears that the major dealer of "dope of your choice" is the CIA.
Vietnam sound familiar? huge heroin interests there.

How are you goin to stop drug presence, when it's the govt./millit. that bring it in and out of the country?
personally the conclusion i've come to is to accept the way deals are done, and try and profit somewhere.

You're very knowledgeable for a 15 year old. Yes, CIA has used the drug trade to finance operations in Central and South America. Elsewhere too.

Hey I’m already getting self in trouble, you know that foot in mouth stuff. I really enjoy this site and the folks participating and do not wish to be drummed out. (only kidding) Above all I love this country sans corrupt legislators. I offered to die for it once, and if they would have me, I would do it again. Our founders were unbelievably sensitive to what would make a great nation because of their pain, and they set it down in writing all of which was genius. Power and money corrupt and total power corrupts totally. To correct this we must do something about PAC contributions. Bush was double speaking last night wanting to correct something about “soft money” but only for the show to cover all the unbelievable funding he has received. Man what am I saying

Re: America's hidden drug problem

Both sides will spend over a billion dollars on this presidential election. George Will pointed out that America spends more than that on potato chips but politics aint potato chips and the presidency should not be for sale to special interests with lots of campaign cash. The 527 groups should also be abolished because their enabling legislation goes against the intent and scope of all other laws relating to nonprofit organizations and political activities. We shouldn't give tax exempt status to organizations that are directly involved in advancing political campaigns.

I have to laugh when America admonishes other nations for political corruption. We're just more creative about it.

Hmmmmmmm. Guess I'm straying off topic again.

Question Re: America's hidden drug problem

“I have to laugh when America admonishes other nations for political corruption. We're just more creative about it. “
Plazul:
If I ever establish absolute credibility, I will delve into the realm of dirty tricks and insignificant constituents, who go public they are not in accord with the administration. Otherwise I will continue to dance around the edges.

With heavy heart I suggest our legislators, when constituents appear to be a threat, arrange they secretly be cleanse. Vince Foster (I believe that is correct) was found in the DC park, shot in the head and was said he died by his own hand. There was no blood, no bone fragments, no gun, no spent shell. I assume he killed himself at another location and drove himself to that park. While driving he discarded the shell the bone fragments and the blood, you see he was a neat freak. Before lying down he drove the car off the cliff and made sure it burned to an ash. He returned to the park and “GOT DOWN”.

There is so much of this “stuff” it boggles the mind. How did Jack Ruby get into the act. Hell I don’t know.

Lightbulb Re: America's hidden drug problem

Its a WorldWide problem now. In Ireland,we did not get the high til the late 1970s
then it was only purple hearts and hash. I tried hash. But the hard stuff did not get here until the late 1980s. Now Ireland is 2nd in the EU as a drug problem. I only like the booze. But if I had been born in 1980 I would not be here right now.

I pity the kids growing up today. We had a ball, we got laid and drank and smoked without no worries.

Today its another matter. I'm glad I'm on the way out,and not on the way in.
