MinPins!

I must admit that I cried about three months after buying my MinPin. I just bought myself another baby! What was I thinking? Miniature Pinschers are A LOT of work. No one should bring one home without thought. But...when you get through the childhood, she is one of the best things that happened to me. Notorious for being clowns, they are near impossible to show. Watch for small breed problems with the kneecap (usually the rear legs) going out of place so they will hop about as they run for a short while. Needs surgery if they swell and become difficult. Usually it pops back into place on its own.

If you love these dogs it is hard to have only one. A perpetual puppy and hot water bottle that just wants to cuddle up to you under the blankies and be warm together. Can jump tall buildings in a single bound. Invest in child gates.

What are they like with other dogs and children? I know people say a dog is how you bring it up but with some breeds I'm not so sure....

MinPins should not be around young children for the safety of the dog. They are very small and fragile. They do really well when there are other MinPins in the house. Harder to spoil them. They are somewhat jealous but can do well with other dogs if they are socialized when they are young. The main issue is the small size of the MinPin and it's vulnerability. They think they are a lot tougher than they are too!

One of the many funny things about this dog is how they collect. Anyone who uses a crate with a MinPin is in for a big surprise when they clean the crate out. You'll find stuff you didn't even know you'd lost. Big time collectors.

Oh! This post brought back so many memories!! I miss my Casey (a min pin) so much! The part about the collecting really hit HOME! Wanted to share this....shortly after Casey's death, I eventually realized I HAD to go and wash his bed and put his things away....when taking the bed apart, down in the cushions, I found all sorts of artifacts that reduced me to tears as I fell apart right there on the laundry room floor!! The most heart-wrenching of all was a little foam magnet he must have swiped from the fridge that actually said...(are you ready for this? sniff sniff)...."I LOVE YOU".........sniff sniff!!!!!! BTW, I read your post about the knees and he had that problem, but never needed surgery.

That's so sweet. Sad, but heartwarming. As much as she drives me crazy...a lot...I don't want to think about what it will be like when she is gone.

that is so sweet and sad! When we had to have our dog put down the worst part was walking out of the vets with her lead. She had been ill and the vet sedated her for an x-ray. She found tumors etc and we decided not to bring her back round. Its heartbreaking when a pet dies

on a lighter nore Koan, you're dog is gorgeous!!

I am sorry to hear of your loss! It is never easy saying goodbye...I have had dogs all my life and so I have seen them come and go. The thing we have to remember is the wonderful quality of life we gave them and all the years they made us so happy. I am sorry to hear how you had to say goodbye to your pooch...not realizing it was the end until it was there. But what a peaceful way to go. And think of all the suffering you spared her, because surely tumors would have meant medication and probably pain. You did the right thing. I wish my Casey had not had to suffer so much from his diabetes before he passed.
