Hello, I am the parent of a wonderful 19 year old daughter who is at an 8 month level and is visually and hearing impaired, has a profound seizure disorder and other medical issues.
Any other parents out there who have a child who has a disability? |

Again, i welcome you to the group, and hope you get some positive feedback from other parents who share your problems. I think it`s excellent that you can post about your experience.

Re: Parenting a child that has a disability
hello and welcome to the garden. I have a child that is severly handicapped. He has what they call Cerberal Palsy and Hydrocephlus. He also has seizures and sever muscle spasms. He is wheelchair bound for the rest of his life. He has been this way since he was born. He has a very high IQ. But he has trouble getting it out in the open. He can not talk or walk or even roll over or sit up but he is still one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I have other children that are healthy(Thank GOD) but would not take nothing in this world for him. He is now 14 years old. I wish you all the luck in the world.
It can be a trying time when your child is handicapped but it can also be the most joyful time in your life especially if you have other children. Every thing that my other children done was full of fun and memories but they grow up to fast but every little new thing that my son does is awesome because we never expected him to do it. I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers and may GOD bless you |

Re: Parenting a child that has a disability
Hi Chattergal
I have an eight year old boy who has 'dyspraxia' also trying to investigate Autism. To all intents and purposes my son 'looks normal', but emotionally he is still at the age of a four to five year old. He has very poor muscle tone, and I'll never forget the physiotherapist being amazed he could walk at all, he's very determined. I fought hard for him to attend mainstream school which he loves sometimes!! I also have a normal three year old little girl who is far too advanced for her years!! Welcome to the garden and I hope you visit us often! ![]() |

Re: Parenting a child that has a disability
My son is healthy so far, cross my fingers. He has a 50% chance of inheriting my disorder. I pray he does not. I cannot imagine what you as parents of disabled children go through. I admire you.

Re: Parenting a child that has a disability
My loverly neice is 22 and I think about 3 or 4 mentally. No reason they could find, but she doesn't let that bother her. She's having fun, enjoying life, and dragging smiles out of whoever glances her way. It's a challenge for my sister, to be sure, but she has proven herself well worthy.
