crazy about my cats

Until recently, I hadn't had a pet since my dog died 15 years ago. And in another life I had horses, dogs, cats, parrots, donkeys, and mini mules.

last year I became the reluctant owner of two sister Tabby cats but now we're so bonded I have to take them wherever I go. They will be going with me to Mexico in a few months and I'm going to take them up to Calgary in a couple of weeks.

I've always been an animal lover but I've never had a relationship with an animals like I have with Carmen and Felina. It's a sort of telepathic empathy that's hard to put into words. We just *know *each other. They have almost human personalities (anthromorphising?) and I know they speak their own language. I see it more now that I've read a book on cat body language.

My former significant other really didn't care for them and none of my friends are cat people but I would trade any one of my friends for these girls. Honestly. I've been accused of turning into a sissy boy because of the way I dote on them but they've sort of trained me to pamper them and I don't mind going a little over board. In fact, they're getting quite spoiled and fat.

Anyway, I suppose I've become a softie in my middle years. My girls are a constant source of amusement for me and I could chat forever about them but I just thought somebody would like to compare pet notes.

Re: crazy about my cats

We had 6 cats, but are now down to 3. I'm in a family of animal lovers. They love any kind of animals. We also have 2 rabbits, 2 dogs, and a fish. We've had everything from snakes, lizards, ferrets, hamsters, ducks, you name it. Unfortunately, it's not my choosing to have all these pets. I like animals when they belong to other people. It's just too much work to keep up with them all.

Re: crazy about my cats

i grew up with cats ever present (and along the way, tortoises, guinea pigs, hamsters, and tropical fish). i'm just loopy about my kitty gracie, whom we got thirteen years ago, but i'm just as loopy about our 'pup' tamsen, who we got eleven years ago, and who is the first dog i've ever had. tamsen's a black&red german shepherd, and she is just the sweetest girl on the planet. she lost a front leg to cancer a year ago, and she's in her golden years, but she's doing remarkably well considering she's in the human-equivalent of her eighties.

gracie, on the other hand, was supposed to be dead years ago. it's a remarkable, odd story, and i codified it on my website some time ago.

you can read a bit about both of them, with purdy-pichurs, here:

We alway's had cats and dogs. But I prefer a dog. I now have a greyhound+ Collie

Believe me, I know how much work animals can be. The first thing I used to do in the morning before I had my coffee was feed and muck out my quarter horse stud, Marty. We had to keep him in the barn because you know how stallions are around mares and geldings. He was okay when you rode him with the other horses but Katie bar the door if you let him out in the pasture with them.

Nice photos of Tamsen. I had a black and tan shepard named Trooper who was the baddest dog in seven counties. He loved people but went crazy around other male dogs. That was a problem on a number of occasions and I had to pay my neighbor's vet bill when Trooper got loose and tore up his Blue Tic. He was a piece of work.

Re: crazy about my cats

It's great to see all the animal lovers here. We have two dogs and three cats. (Plus some fish.) We keep the doors closed to keep other animals from joining the party.

Our oldest dog is our Corgi. She is sweet and oh so faithful. She is about 7 years old now and doing great.

I also love cats. Our cats are wonderful too. One of them thinks he's a dog.

I take a walk through the woods at least two times a day (except for the winter!) and this particular cat comes with me and our two dogs. They all romp around like they are a pack of mini wolves. It's funny to watch.

I'll post a couple of photos of our Corgi. I'll also post another photo that I find amusing. This was taken during the first big snow of last year. She always likes to be "in the thick of things" - yet at her comfort. See if you can spot her in the second photo.
