All five of the world's top ranked players will be there. They are:

# 2 V J Singh (Fiji)
# 3 Ernie Els (South Africa)
# 4 Phil Mickelson ( USA)
# 5 Retief Goosen (South Africa) - holder.

TV schedele is:
Thurs and Fri - 10am and 5pm ESPN
Thurs and Fri - 3pm NBC Sports
Sat and Sun - 1230pm NBC Sports

Last year Goosen hung on to his Open title from a late charging Mickelson.

In an interview yesterday he said he was looking forward to playing Pinehurst again. Apparently it's one of his favorite courses - a statement which might cause his opponents to worry a little!

Re: Open Golf Championship

With the 105th U.S. Open about to kick off, lets not forget about one of the greats who passed away on October 25, 1999. As a golf fan and player of many years, the game of golf lost a great man on that day. Payne Stewart.

When the U.S. Open returns to Pinehurst in June, a lot of people in golf will be thinking about the man who won't be there. NBC will replay what is referred to simply as The Putt, Payne Stewart's 15-foot par-saver on the 18th green six years ago that clinched his second Open title. Tracey Stewart remembers that putt, even though she could see neither her husband nor the hole from where she was standing at that moment.........

A great man - Payne Stewart.
Who can forget his wonderfully colored outfits he used to wear. They brightened up every event he took part in.
And what a bizarre way to die!
He will always be remembered.

Yeah, he was dead before the plane hit the ground so atleast he didn't have to think about falling to the ground and wondering when the plane was going to hit. He was always one of my favorite golfers. I too loved his outfits. Brought a little character to the game. Different than the ordinary, polo shirts, khaki pants and ball cap. I reremeber what I was doing when I found out. Made me very upset for days.
