Read This: ZERO TOLERANCE FOR POSTING IN MISPLACED THREADS

ForumGarden is a great place. We have very few rules. The rules are easy to follow and remember: (1.) No spamming and (2.) Be civil in your discussions.

ForumGarden has added a new POSTING rule: Do not post or reply in misplaced threads.

To make this as clear as possible: (Please read carefully.)

Anyone found spamming or flaming in response to a misplaced, spam, or trolling thread in any forum will be warned.

If you want to avoid this, play it safe and do not post at all in misplaced threads. This includes saying that it is misplaced and even redirecting them to the correct forum.

If you wish to be helpful please do so by reporting the thread. If you want to redirect them please do so by PM'ing them politely rather than reporting in the thread.

ForumGarden will not tolerate people using an inappropriate post in a thread as an excuse to flame, abuse, or spam. This does not prevent people from posting in the forum again. It does not 'educate' them. It is not helpful.

The only thing this does is lead one to the conclusion that FG is full of buttheads who would rather flame than have an intelligent discussion. This drives away good users who would be assets to the forum but can't be bothered dealing with jerks who don't know how to have a discussion and instead flame to preserve a forum ideal they hypocritically violate.

If any part of this is not clear, please post your question here and we will do our best to clarify.

Oops, guilty, sorry, thought I did it politely. I will make sure in the future I PM.

Thanks for the warning.

Delighted to hear that you're clamping down on the 'idiot brigade', FG.

Thumbs up Re: Read This: ZERO TOLERANCE FOR POSTING IN MISPLACED THREADS

At another site I go to, it's called a thread drift, and they're rampant. Sometimes funny, sometimes annoying. But it's a pretty loose place! Heaven forbid I forget and do it here!

So, if a member says "Hiya how are you" in a thread about politics,
is it considered bad manners or drifting from the thread to reply.

Re: Read This: ZERO TOLERANCE FOR POSTING IN MISPLACED THREADS

here's what it boils down to, from my discussions with the other head gardener.

this is in response largely to threads where spam - or posts presumed to be spam - have generated bouncing-about flames and arguing with the spammer/miscreant. i have to admit that i'm one of the worst offenders in this regard - there have been numerous instances where, rather than using my webmasterly powers and just deleting the spam - i've merely deleted the spammer's link to their offsite click-through/website/whatever, and replaced it with some ostensibly witty riposte, suggesting that they scram and bugger up someone else's forum.

this tends to be pretty pointless. rather than responding to the spammer, telling them to go elsewhere, or that we hate spam here, or whatever, the right thing to do is to click the 'report this post' button that every posting has.

if on the other hand, some poor lost soul who's just signed up is found posting their 'hello' in the 'warfare and military' forum, it's best to send them a quick PM and point them to the 'introductions' forum - you could even start a new topic in introductions, 'introducing' the new user, so they could post their greetings in reply to yours (for some reason, newbies seem to find it easier to reply to existing threads than start new threads).

we want forumgarden to be a friendly, easy-going place to visit.

in that regard, i must forthwith take a long walk off a short virtual pier.
