Arnold's ode to Nixon
At the beginning of Arnold's much heralded convention speech he recalled coming to America in 1968 and how Nixon's political philosophy immediately appealed to him. He told a story about watching the presidential debates with a German friend who was acting as an interpretor and when Nixon finished his speech Arnold asked his friend what party Nixon belonged to. His friend said, "He's a Republican." And Arnold replied, "Then I'm a Republican." Interesting choice for a political role model.
Then Arnold went on to explain to undecided voters how to know if you're a Republican. he said, "If you think that government ought to be accountable to the people instead of the people being accountable to the government, you're a Republican."
Hmmm. Do you think he learned that from Richard Nixon?
