Military Industrial Convention

Zel Miller is the new poster boy for the defense industry. Last night he implied, in a southern televangelist style, that anybody who questions price gouging, bid rigging, cost exceeding, defense contractors and their patronage pals at the pentagon is guilty of of treason.

When he was reciting the litany of weapons bills that Kerry voted against he conveniently omitted what else was in that legislation. Have you ever looked at a defense procurement bill? It's pork barrel spending at its worst.

Miller lavished praise on President Eisenhower last night which I found ironic because it was good old Ike who warned us against the rising power of the military industrial complex. Now we have a defense establishment that runs the Pentagon's procurement programs however it pleases and dictates what weapons system our nation *needs.*

While out troops go without basic necessities in the field Miller and his chicken hawk cronies waste billions on flawed weapons programs and they're spending more on nuclear weapons than we did during the Cold War. It's pretty obvious what their priorities are and their vitriolic criticism of Kerry is truly the proverbial pot calling the kettle black.

Miller self righteously wraps himself in the flag and salutes his fellow Marines but he knows that this administration put them in grave danger in Iraq when our forces were exposed to attack because of lack of logisticial support and battle cover from the rear as they advanced towards Iraq. They just lucked out because we duped Saddam into thinking there would be a suprise push through the north. Almost every military expert that has commented on the war (read Janes Defense) has stated that we were woefully short of troops in this war and nobody can deny that we lacked the military police capacity to deal with the riots and looting in post war Iraq.

For Miller to say that this administration will give our soldiers all the support they deserve is an egregious bold faced lie. For purely political reasons the Bush team prematurely restored sovereignty to the current interim government which has resulted in an internal security disaster and put our troops at greater risk. Bush Administration policies have set the stage for a protracted guerilla war and a new White House sponsored dictatorship in Baghdad and there will be no hope for democracy in Iraq as long as the neocons are calling the shots.

The real coward, George W. Bush, doesn't want to debate the issues surrounding this war. If he's so sure of himself let's see him step up and defend his actions in an unguarded forum. But he wont. Instead, he will let tunnel visioned talk show hosts fight his battles for him and his conniving campaign managers will distort the truth with a barrage of "patriotic" attack ads.

Zel Miller, you are a fake and fraud. And your lofty preaching to the choir at the convention is not going to convince Americans that their sons and daughters should continue to die for your corporate sponsors and advance their agenda at all costs.

Couldn't have put it better myself. If Bush is so confident about his plans, if he thinks they're right, then why doesn't he defend his position?

The other big thing that Bush doesn't want us to think about is his nominations for the SCOTUS. When they finally stack the Court with malleable justices who will bow to their will we can kiss our constitutional rights goodbye. If you think the Patriot Act is bad, wait until you see the next Big Brother bill these brown shirt bastards come up with. Gives me a chill just to think about it.
