Marine Corps develops non lethal weapon
The Marine Corps will soon have a non lethal weapon at their disposal for crowd control and flushing out terrorists.
It's a non lethal directed energy weapon that heats moisture particles on human skin causing painful burning without doing damage to tissue. Unlike the other services, Marines often have to deal with hostile crowds and demonstrations and the new weapon could be very effective in quelling potentially dangerous protests that often result in civilian fatalities. It will also be useful in flushing out terrorists hiding in buildings. The beam is effective at over 2,000 ft. and the range could be improved. |

Yeah, the government has been researching non lethal weapons tech lately. They're also planning to put to use extremely focused sound waves to hurt other soldiers.

Re: Marine Corps develops non lethal weapon
Yes, fascinating technology. (I love radios, RF, you name it.)
Some of the devices they are using RF are based. Other equipment is actually sound waves - and they can modify the pulses to stop a person's heart. Nasty. In some ways, it's worse than lead because it is invisible, travels at the speed of light, is totally silent, and will have incredible range. (Compared to standard issue assault rifles.) It's like fighting against a laser weapon. No time to duck and the re-positioning is instantaneous.

Re: Marine Corps develops non lethal weapon
All I can say in regards to this article, is that this method of non lethal weaponry won't be available to us for a while to come. Not to mention that this product is still in the developmental stages. In the mean time we should be fine with the non lethal hand to hand training that we recieve.

omg! man's knowledge is just disgusting. it's all very well saying "oh that technology is of the future"...but gdamnit, the future inches closer every day...mankind has determination and two saying come to mind. "If you can dream it, you can do it...and "the task ahead of us , is never as strong as the power behind us."
brrrrrrr. *me runs n hides.

The Irish Police (An Garda) have had these non lethal weapons for sometime. They too use them for crowd control at protest marches in rooting out trouble makers.

Re: Marine Corps develops non lethal weapon
Wether you think that I am being nieve or not isn't what matters. What matters is that these weapons won't be available to the military, let alone the Marine Corps for a while to come for many reasons. I mean, we haven't completed upgrading the M16 A2 weapons that we have today, what makes you think that all of a sudden we will jump to a new design that's is years ahead of where we stand right now. If for no other reason, than the budget that we get. My point is change takes time, especially when change is taking place through massive ordering and distribution.
