Retired Intel officials bash Israel
In a recent interview article in the LA Times a formerly high ranking American counter-intelligence official said that Israel's indignanation over accusations of Israeli espionage against the U.S. is laughable.
He stated that Israel tried to recruit him back in the Nineties and that it is one of the most aggressive nations spying on the U.S.. He said Israel has a vast network of operatives here and that FBI routinely monitors the activities of Israeli diplomats. He also claimed that American diplomats in Israel have had their homes rifled and their computers compromised by Israeli spys. Other former intelligence professionals have also come forward with statements on Israeli espionage operations but they spoke to the Times on condition of anonymity because of the "sensitive" relationship between Israel and the U.S. Some Israeli diplomats have suggested that the sensationalism over the AIPAC affair is just thinly veiled anti semitism, a charge that was also made during the Pollard scandal. But they're now backing off that spin tactic, focusing instead on the fact that Franklin is not Jewish and that it is not unusual for an American intelligence official to meet with his foreign counterpart. If Israel does in fact have a spy network in the U.S. why has the Bush Administration been silent about it? And for that matter, why hasn't the Senate Intelligence Committee ever spoken out about it? You don't have to be a political scientists to figure that one out. |
