Man, this got me weepy.
I figured Val or Tabby would have remarked on this.
I would have figured the same thing, Snooze! I can't get the second link to load with either IE or with Firefox but it was good to see the effects of the goldens in the first article! They're a gentle and loving breed and if they distract & comfort the children in particular for even a short while then they've done their job well. It's bound to be fulfilling to the handlers/owners to be able to offer this kindness and see its effect. We all know that animals can be therapeutic in many ways but this was the first time I had heard of them actually venturing into a grief stricken area for the sole purpose of providing distraction & comfort.
Totally off topic here but I absolutely love the red cape the little girl is wearing in Photo #30! I want one!
The dogs were back for the first day of school at the new Sandy Hook Elementary. There's supposed to be a vid on CNN of them that I couldn't find it but here's a news story that has a clip from their first visit.

I'm more of a cat person but even I can't resist a Golden. I love these guys. The group gave up a good chunk of their holidays to go help, bless their hearts.
They're loving that snow! I'm sure the children adored their presence at school on the first days back and there's bound to be a few new golden retriever lovers in the world because of this kind deed.
I still want that cape!

Here, we are seeing more and more care homes for the elderly use dogs for comfort.... It's awesome.
I learnt a valuable lesson from my dog. To kick some grass over the crap In life, walk away and move on.
