Police, CPS, magistrates a "laughing stock" over driver prosecution.

"Spotter plane called in to catch driver holding an apple.

It took a year, 10 court hearings, a police helicopter, a spotter aircraft, a video camera and lots of public money to bring Sarah McCaffery to justice.

Her crime? Holding a Golden Delicious apple as she drove to work."

"She was holding an apple driving in to work, therefore was not in complete control"

I think that the policeman who issued the ticket, the CPS who decided to prosecute, and the magistrates who convicted, ar the most laughable band of aerosols that I've heard of for some time. What clowns.

Re: Police, CPS, magistrates a "laughing stock" over driver prosecution.

I heard the lady from the cps on the radio this afternoon, her justification was that an accident "COULD" have occured, on this basis I am not going to drive at all, or walk or anything else for that matter because someting "COULD" happen.

Nearly as good as the Asian guy who was dragged into court in Brum last year for endangering the life of a police officer. His crime was to drive through a puddle too fast and splash the officer in question, this actually made it to a crown court where one of our less senile judges threw the cae out in 2 mins.

This danger whilst driving thing is getting out of hand, there must bemillions of journeys undertaken each year and I think we have about 2,000 deaths, is you analyse the risk per mile it is probably more dangerous to arrange flowers than drive a car. in fact according to home office statistics there were thre "trouser" related deaths last year, perhaps the unforunate three tried puuting their trousers on whilst holding an apple !!
