I don't get this- could that girl not make any attempt to fight back?? Why are we not teaching our young women self defense and more importantly self worth?

Report: Teen Beaten in YouTube Attack to Be Homeschooled

The Florida teen beaten in an "animalistic attack" filmed for YouTube will be homeschooled for the duration of her high school career, MyFOXTampaBay.com reports.
Victoria Lindsay, 16, of Mulberry, Fla., will be taught at home until she finishes high school and will miss the coming prom, the station reports. She is still having trouble with her hearing and sight since the March 30 attack.
Seven juveniles remained in detention Wednesday. They along with one adult have been charged in connection with the beating of the Mulberry High School student.

Mercades Nichols, 17, Brittini Hardcastle, 17, and Britney Mayes, 17, face charges of felonious battery,

false imprisonment and kidnapping in connection with the attack. Cara Murphy, 16, Kayla Hassell, 15, April Cooper, 14, Zachary Ashley, 17, and Stephen Schumaker, 18, face charges of felonious battery and false imprisonment.

A Polk County judge issued a gag order Wednesday in the case, after parents of some of the teens and Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd appeared on national TV shows discussing the case this week.
Judge J. Michael McCarthy was critical of the sheriff's decision to distribute part of the video, which has now been viewed widely on national TV and the Internet.
Judd issued a statement saying he'll appeal the judge's ruling.
Police said Lindsay was attacked on March 30 by six teenage girls when she arrived at a friend's home.
One of the girls struck her on the head several times and then slammed Lindsay's head into a wall, knocking her unconscious, according to an arrest report.
Later, according to a clip of the video that was released by the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the teens can be seen blocking a door and hitting her.
Two males, Ashley and Schumaker, allegedly acted as lookouts, police said.
"It's heartbreaking, really, to see that kids would do something like that to each other," Mulberry High School Principal George Hatch told MyFOXTampaBay.com.
While the beatings took place more than a week ago, Victoria's parents — Patrick and Talisa Lindsay — said their daughter remains scared for her life.
"When you see your daughter, who's not striking back to defend herself, and someone keeps coming at you like that. It's just, it's a horrible thing," Talisa Lindsay told the station.

I think she was too scared to fight back because they ganged up on her.
It's so stupid because it's all about "why don't you like her or her" or "why don't you talk to this person or that person!"

Feel sorry for her i know too well what she went through but its not just girls getting beat up its also boys people need to stand up for themselvs abit more and not let there abusive parents take control of them, really upsets me how this is still going on

Red, I've been following this on the TV news. It was stated that the beaten girl was unconscious on the couch and when she came to, they started beating her again.

I sure hope charges filed against them stick and they are totally held responsible for their actions! They are old enough to know right from wrong and no other human being needs to be pulverized like they did to this poor girl.

Ohh, I saw this on tv this am. I hope those brats get the book thrown at them. One of the two boys was complaining that he had to spend the night in jail and had the gall to announce "I didn't do anything". He was serving as one of the lookouts outside of the home where this poor girl was beaten. "Yeah, bud, what you did was block the door so she couldn't escape. And you didn't do anything"?

I'm sure the parents of these brats will offer up every excuse in the world why their precious children are innocent. I'm sure they are already lawyered up.

Do any of you remember last year in New Jersey, some people went away for a weekend and their foster daughter held a huge party and these kids went nuts in the house, pooped on a piana and ruined it, peed everywhere and just about ruined the entire house?

The sad part is the judge gave them a light tapping on the hand, and these kids have never said "sorry to the people's home they ruined". In fact, some of these brats blamed the daughter and parents. They all lawyered up. Even some of the parents were just so out of the loop thinking their precious children would "never do that".

Perhaps if they had spent a little more time getting to know their children they might of realised what they were capable of. Most parents (where I live) hardly even see their kids, and when they do its a brief moment between getting home from work and them going to bed. In a neighbouring district most parents work in NY, they are not there to get there kids off to school, not there when they get home (most are given money to get dinner from McDonalds or such), most don't get home until late. How can they know what their children are capable of.

A few years ago we lived in a little village (400 people) and there was one very anti social family with 2 children who basically did as they pleased.
They had had a few digs at my kids but nothing too serious until one day the youngest who was about 8 wanted to ride my sons bike when my son said no the other kid pulled a knife and held it to my sons throat.
Ryan ( my son) came home terrified and shaking. I went and found the boy with the bike and I took the knife away from him, at that point his mother turned up and tried to attack me for daring to take the knife from her son.!

The police were called and my son still visibly shaken with the red stripe still on his neck gave a statement, but even though this family was known to the police I was told I had to give the knife back and that I should try to keep the peace because "we all have to live together"
I refused to give the knife to the woman but I surrenderd it to the police station and got a receipt I told the officer that if I heard that this knife had been used in any other attack I would use the receipt as proof that he had been negligent in preventing a crime.
I told the mother that I felt sorry for her children because they had no chance of growing into decent human beings with her as an example.

The woman is now dead (overdose) her sons go in and out of prison like yo yo's stealing cars,robbery, ect ect, they are both addicts.
Maybe if something had been done to disipline these boys earlier they might have been halfway decent. The softly softly approach just does not work.
