And when did Thursday night start?

Sundown Thursday to Sunup Friday = night one

Sundown Friday to Sunup Saturday = night two

Sundown Saturday to Sunup Sunday = night three

    Where is the fourth night?

That is one of the most bass ackwards notions I have seen in a while.
It may not be so much that I've conceded your point as that you just can't hear me rolling my eyes.

    LarsMac,
re: "That is one of the most bass ackwards notions I have seen in a while."

If that comment is directed to me, what is "bass ackwards" about it? I was asked when did Thursday night start?
I replied that It started at sundown at the end of Wednesday. When do you say it started?

Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night - 4 nights.
Changing the definition to make an apparent contradiction does not mean that there is a contradiction, it means that your definition is wrong.

The night starting sundown Wednesday is Wednesday night just as the Sabbath starts on Friday night - sundown Friday.

    Re: Matthew 12:40

    Bryn Mawr,
re: "The night starting sundown Wednesday is Wednesday night..."

That is incorrect. Wednesday night had been over some 12 hours by the time Wednesday daytime ended at sundown. And at that moment Thursday night began.

re: "...just as the Sabbath starts on Friday night.."

The Sabbath starts right after sundown at the end of Friday daytime. Friday night had been over some 12 hours by the time Friday ended.

OK, regardless of what you call the nights, Luke 23:56 to Luke 24:1 and John 19:28 to John 20:1 both appear to be quite specific, Jesus died and way buried on Friday afternoon and the tomb was found to be open on Monday morning - that to me is three days and three nights in anyone's money.

    Bryn Mawr,

How do you arrive at Monday, the 2nd day of the week?
