Someone failed ~ whether it be the judicial system or the ex wife who didn't take things seriously. Why was this man released back into society? Not to mention he plead not guilty to 1st degree murder of Jessica even though he confessed to police and led them to her body. SAD!

Police tapes reveal accused killer's 1991 plea for help

(CNN) -- The man charged with killing 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford confessed in 1991 that he tried to molest a 5-year-old girl, telling police "I need help," according to a tape obtained by CNN.

The suspect, 46-year-old John Evander Couey, was charged this week with capital murder, burglary with battery, kidnapping and sexual battery on a child younger than 12.

Couey had been arrested 25 times previously in Florida -- the same state as where he allegedy kidnapped and killed Jessica.

In the confession recorded 14 years ago, he described what he did to the 5-year-old girl in her back yard.

"She was riding across and I went over there, and she offered to go in the back yard to jump on the trampoline. And I said 'OK.' We went back there and she was jumping on there," he said on the tape. "I asked if she wanted to play hide and go seek and she said yes, so we did."

Couey acknowledged to police that he exposed himself, that the girl then sat on his lap -- voluntarily, he claimed -- and that he put the girl's hand on him.

"Then her mother come out and yelled for her and I took off," Couey said.

"I feel that prison ain't going to help me," he said. "I got a 10-year sentence and I done got out in three years, and it doesn't really help. I feel that I need help for myself. That's why I'm confessing to my crime that I committed tonight, 'cause I want help for myself so I will never have to be this again. I mean I feel bad about it, really I do.

"I feel that if I can get help for myself then I can make a better person out of myself," he said.

Couey was given the maximum sentence for attempted molestation -- five years -- and was out on parole after two years.

He told police at the time that his effort to molest a young girl was not a one-time event.

A written report by the officer who took the taped confession said: "Couey admitted that this was not the first child he had ever touched, however, this is the first time he was caught."

The officer continued: "Couey admitted to molesting his wife's daughter, however, she agreed not to report the incident if he left the house and gave her a divorce, which he did. Couey knows he has a problem, however, has never sought medical assistance to help him control his sexual attraction for young children."

CNN tried unsuccessfully to locate Couey's former wife for comment.

Fourteen years after Couey's plea for help, police sources said, he entered Lunsford's house the night of February 23, made his way to the girl's room, covered her mouth, ordered her to remain quiet and forced her to leave.

Authorities found her body March 19, buried behind the home of Couey's half sister in Homosassa, Florida, north of Tampa.

you know, i actually listened to that taped interview of couey...and i have done many interviews. i found it not the least bit credible, in that he wasn't at all sincere about wanting help. it was just a con's BS to the officer, hoping the officer will feel sympathy and maybe cut him some slack. it was purely manipulative in nature. further, when he was in prison there was help available for him, he could have attended programs. he didn't. these guys never change and don't want to. as i said in my thread this morning, "tracking sexual predators--how?", the rate of recidivism for these offenders is 4 times that of other criminals. they are recalcitrant and hardwired in their proclivities.

He wasn't sincere in wanting help? Who the fluck cares? He admitted to his problem and the courts and the prison could have MADE him get help. He was hoping for sympathy? He obviously got it. What's the guy got to do? Molest the judge's daughter and kill her to get them to actually take him seriously? You can bet, if it was a law officials child that got molested, he'd have done his whole time if not more.

WARREN, Mich. -- An ex-convict is wanted by police for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl inside a public building in Warren.



Kou Xiong (pictured, left), 34, is a registered sex offender and has spent time in prison, Local 4 reported. Police said he is accused of sexually assaulting the 12-year-old girl at an undisclosed building located at Eight Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue on March 10.

Police have obtained a warrant for Xiong, which includes two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of failing to register as a sex offender, Local 4 learned.

I wonder, if a prison checked out who all was supposed to be registered, let's say in the last 5 years, how many of those people they could actually find, and how many are no longer at the address the registered. I bet the numbers would be high.

This Xiong pig was very recently released from prison. (I can't recall how long he has been out.) I drove by the place he did this today and used to work within sight of the building. I'd sure like to know how this piece of garbage got away with this in a public building in broad daylight.

the major networks are reporting that couey buried Jessica ALIVE. that he kept her at least 24 hours and buried her alive. i am horrified. and those other people in the trailer, i hope to hell they are charged as accessories.
