You know, I'm not really surprised that Trump made it to the White House, with all the back-biting and slanderous statements pouring from his ugly mean mouth, and no doubt his minions searching out dirt about his opponent. Also how gullible many American citizens are, to be taken in by all the hype that is always present at the work-up to presidential elections. Although this time, the American citizens didn't get much of a choice did they ? Trump or Hilary Clinton !!!! Couldn't you Americans have found any better candidates ?
The UK lot are not very different, I have to say. We public are conned into believing all the lies fed to us by politicians, although I have to also say that this is not anything like 100% of the electorate.
Running for the presidency may turn out to be the most successful business deal he has ever made.
No matter how much I despised Clinton I could not bring myself to vote for the Trump.
Right now the whole government seems to be in a meltdown, not like I know to have happened since 1860.
Because I love my country I hope whoever is elected to do well for us.

All this about the cost of the holiday is, of course, Fake News. The reality is, as Sean Spicer has stated, Trump will NEVER take a vacation. The word 'Vacation' will not even exist.

Ads far as I can see, Trump voters and brexit voters apart from nationality, are the same people. Both groups were led to believe a jump off a cliff with an unknown landing was a better option than normal politics. Both have the support of the far right media, far right politicians, racists and Russia, though Russia seems less sure of Trump now. Both were unashamed populist movements that cared nothing whatever for the truth - both Trump and Farage said it would be great with no detail beyond that and people believed them, because the right wing media (Sun, Mail, Express the main ones over here, Fox and breitbart over there) repeated their lies over and over and over until for many they are facts.
edit: To Trump and brexit voters I'd add the far right separatist movements in France, Germany and Holland - all part of the same separatist, nationalist far right movement.
Over here I'm seeing food prices (not just the weather affected products like lettuce etc) climbing - if the price on the package hasn't changed, the amount has often dropped. In both cases about 25% at a rough estimate.
I am also seeing a tendency for brexit voters (not all, I have to guess) blaming the BBC, the EU and Remain voters for anything they don't like about brexit. The BBC is accused of fake news and left wing bias, the EU is accused of being nasty and picking on us for saying a deal must be worse than full membership and Remain voters are accused of causing brexit to fail by not supporting it. We haven't even started the negotiations before we actually brexit, yet!
I hope, of course that I am wrong and brexit will be a little hop onto a rainbow and then a gentle slide to the crock of gold at its end as so many brexiters believe it will, once the evil vampiric EU is left and preferably destroyed.

I agree with most of the above...................but....
There has to be a reason for the rise of populist politicians of this frightening flavour throughout Europe and the USA.
And that is that the elitist powers that be in their ivory towers are insulated from the unease on housing estates, the queues in doctor waiting rooms.
The rate of change is the enemy, while shopping in the super market with my foreigner wife, we listen for how many different languages we can recognise.
Most people don't like change, they like the foreigners that they know, their kids play with Africans and Muslim kids, so they are not racist.
My own smallish town has now several Gurkha shops and restaurants plus Polish shops,.........and multi lingual queues to see the doctor.
It may or may not be connected........at the same time those in power tell us everything is OK.............and the opposition are ineffective.
The only people talking the same language are the 'populists'.....so who can you vote for ?
I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth
I think the rate of change is a big deal and not appreciated and I think our politicians have been poor. However I'm beginning to think there's a bigger thing at play here - the speed of technological advance and our failure to produce sufficiently advanced multinational organisations to deal with global problems - including the speed of technological advance. The UN can't, the EU is in trouble and climate change isn't stopping. At the same time rumours, outright lies, propaganda and occasional truths swirl around the internet and it's increasingly hard to tell which is which.
We need more socialism, imo, but it's going to be hard to push it against the uncontrolled agendas of the multinational corporations.

You have to understand what it is that made people vote the way they did. It isnt because we have all suddenly turned into wretched racists. Of course a lot of those who voted Leave were and are rabid, xenophobic Nationalists but its because consistently, successive Governments refused to listen to people who had genuine concerns. The left in particular have a lot to answer for for refusing to address what people wanted. The European Union doesn't work for us ordinary people and isn't democratic.
We're all, as I have to keep saying, not all Little Englanders. The referendum was a way of wrestling power back from the Government, albeit temporarily and allowing the people to have a say. Which they did.
This is what Tony Benn had to say about a referendum to decide whether to leave. Indeed he was a strong advocate for leaving. I wouldn't ever accuse Tony Benn of being a Trump supporter would you ? He'd be turning in his grave at the very thought of a President Trump.
Now we have the irrelevant Tony Blair chirping in. He's done his business. He's had his day and caused hundreds of thousands of people to loose their lives. He needs to shut up and go away."Members of Parliament are lent the powers by their constituents and they have to return those powers back, undiminished. Its not for Members of Parliament to give away the powers that were lent to them because they don't belong to Members of Parliament. They belong to the electorate"
