You have to understand what it is that made people vote the way they did. It isnt because we have all suddenly turned into wretched racists. Of course a lot of those who voted Leave were and are rabid, xenophobic Nationalists but its because consistently, successive Governments refused to listen to people who had genuine concerns. The left in particular have a lot to answer for for refusing to address what people wanted. The European Union doesn't work for us ordinary people and isn't democratic.

We're all, as I have to keep saying, not all Little Englanders. The referendum was a way of wrestling power back from the Government, albeit temporarily and allowing the people to have a say. Which they did.
On other wirds brexit has bugger all to do with the eu now the right wing have seized on the opportunity to take back control foir themselves ignoring parliament and the majority of the people on the basis of a badly flawed referendum.

That coming from a Lib Dem supporter. They sat in Government and did absolutely sod all while Cameron, Osbourne et al drained us dry.
I too used to be a libdem supporter they had no reason to go in for a coalition their hard core support has fi9nally left that particulkar station imo. They have ceased to be a political force.

This is what Tony Benn had to say about a referendum to decide whether to leave. Indeed he was a strong advocate for leaving. I wouldn't ever accuse Tony Benn of being a Trump supporter would you ? He'd be turning in his grave at the very thought of a President Trump.

Now we have the irrelevant Tony Blair chirping in. He's done his business. He's had his day and caused hundreds of thousands of people to loose their lives. He needs to shut up and go away.
The power of a minority party in a coalition is mostly about restraining the excesses of the other party. Look at the Tories since the coalition to see the sort of characters that have been let loose. I'm also quite proud of the minimum wage as a Lib Dem achievement.

That's not to say Farron isn't a damp rag even in comparison with Clegg, who wasn't exactly Mr Charisma. And while I agree all parties underestimated the levels of discontent if we had more Lib Dem policies I think there would have been less discontent (generalised statement, I know) since of the 3 parties the Lib Dems are much more aware of this sort of thing about society as a whole - the other two are just too class based.

Nonetheless I stand by my statement about Trump voters, brexiters and other separatist movements. By voting as you did you made yourself part of that far right, separatist, nationalist movement. You have empowered its supporters here and abroad, encouraged racists to act (many have) and put a right wing Tory government in power - all before we even get to negotiations about brexit. These things you have done. NONE of them I think will help the ordinary people you think you acted for, but will help major corporations and reduce costs for the rich.

I don't think you personally are a racist though you have certainly helped their cause. You may not personally be a Trump supporter, but you voted for the same movement that brought him to power.

The big difference of course is that trump voters can change their mind and ditch him. If we brexit it is unlikely we will be allowed to just rejoin at the press of a button, should things not work out.

I'm as far away from the Trump and Farage circus as you can get. Tony Benn, Dennis Skinner, Bob Crow, George Galloway, Tariq Ali, Owen Jones. None of them rabid racists or Trump supporters. All good Socialists. Don't paint us all with the same ****ty brush. We voted out for good reasons and not Farages reasons

It's like he went out and hired everybody he could find who was the absolutely WORST possible choice for the job.

A Secretary of Education who never went to public school or taught a class.
A leader of the Environmental Protection Agency that wanted it abolished and sued it four times.
    etc, etc.

In the words of Charleton Heston...
