Restricting US Freedom of Speech for who else?

    Israel, of course.
A bipartisan bill in Congress seeks to criminalize boycotts of Israel with fines and imprisonment, as the so-called BDS movement passes its twelfth birthday, notes Lawrence Davidson.

But the ACLU was on it and apparently unlike the members of Congress who sponsored or co-sponsored the bill they actually read the thing.

THE LEAD AUTHOR of the controversial Israel Anti-Boycott Act, Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland, is open to amending the legislation to address concerns raised by the American Civil Liberties Union, he told The Intercept Monday evening.

The ACLU warned last week that the measure, which targets the BDS movement, was unconstitutional and would have a chilling effect on free speech. In the wake of that warning, and a subsequent article by The Intercept, co-sponsors of the bill have begun to re-examine their support for it.

So it would also be illegal to decide not to buy Israeli oranges as that would be a boycott?

As I understand it, it would be illegal to hold a public demonstration or give a public speech urging a boycott.

    Here's the actual bill.

    https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-...0%22%5D%7D&r=1

It also appears to say that even supporting companies that support BDS is criminal.

States are crafting their own legislation as well.

    Arizona:
A new bill landed on Arizona Governor Doug Ducey’s desk that, if signed, will bar state and local governments from doing business with companies or groups boycotting Israel.

    California:
Israeli boycott blowback: California bill seeks to ban state contracts with pro-BDS companies

    Kansas:
Marjorie Robinow, owner of Israel Tradesource LLC, who has actively pushed for passage of a bill aimed at preventing the state from doing business with companies engaged in a boycott against Israel, was allowed on the Senate floor, where she spoke directly with Sen. Gene Suellentrop, R-Wichita, right, during floor debate on the bill, an apparent violation of Senate rules. Also present were Rep. William Sutton, left, R-Gardner, and David Soffer, director of research and marketing at the Kansas Department of Commerce.

This looks to me like a consequence of Trump's bad government. It's probably not something he's directly involved with but because he really is incompetent and has no idea what his job involves various interest groups are pushing their niche agendas, in the sure knowledge that the WH machine isn't even aware of what they are doing, let alone in control of its own legislative agenda: Politics abhors a vacuum.

    I see Scaramucci has gone.

Trump seems to be looking into the possibilities of Presidential Pardons for himself and his family. They're starting to look like Papal Indulgences.

Over here brexit has the racists out and active. People I talk to say they are getting racist abuse for the first time in decades. Applications for nursing vacancies from overseas have plummeted so the shortage is getting worse, Airlines are shifting away and they won't be able to sell advance tickets soon because they need to know we'll have a Regulatory body of some kind in place which we don't. Jobs are leaving with the relocation of EU regulatory bodies out of the UK and with banks starting to open offices in Dublin and Frankfurt. The drop in the £ has led to a rise in prices generally since we import so much and food prices have leaped above that (or you're getting much less for the price).

Brexiters: responsible for more damage to the country than the Luftwaffe.
The crowd: "Yes! We are all individuals!"
    Lone voice: "I'm not."
