7 Pounds in One Month??!

Hey Gang

I read somewhere that people gain an average of seven pounds during the time between Thanksgiving and New Year's.

Do you gain weight during that time? If not, how the heck do you avoid it?

I do not think you can avoid it. I think we just need to remember to eat responsibly...and not over do on the treats.
But then, after the new year, we need to getting back to our routine.

Even where I work, which is a mental health office, sales reps are constantly bringing in food for us. Sandwiches, donuts, chocolate truffles . . . the list is endless.

Willpower be damned!

I always gain a bit because I'm not at work for starters. I'm pretty active and I don't usually eat until I get home, so the scoffing of all the nibbles takes its toll.
Maybe I'll just go to the gym every day over the hols!

Key word, here is "average".

2 of 3 Americans are clinically obese, being defined as 20% or more over ideal weight, so average isn't very good.

As for avoiding it, don't avoid. This is a mentality of deprivation. When people enter our program they're shocked at how much delicious food they're eating.

Judeo/Christian thought, which does inform most of our cultural conditioning here in the west, seems so punishment driven.

Much Eastern thought, which is based more on a Taoist model, is more about abundance.

Neither is all right, or all wrong, but an overriding approach of repression causes a rise in cortisol levels which will produce weight gain, as only one of its many side effects.

Re: 7 Pounds in One Month??!

well my pilates teacher told me last week at gym the average person eats a whopping 7,000 calories on xmas day!

I cant believe that though, i only have 1,000 a day anyway so there's NO WAY id eat 7,000!

Trouble is i always say its the 1 day of the year il just eat what i like etc but when the time comes i have xmas dinner and pud and then that's me stuffed!

It's not so much Whatyou and how much, but When you eat it.
many poeple eat at partys or othrer gartherings and soon they are home and to bed they go.You body can't burn off the food,so it stores it as fat.
You can eat,but little meals through out the day so your body keeps up with the intake. And lots of water.
A good place too find advice is at www.shapefit.com,lots of good stuff for you there no matter what level you are.
