Bailout plan an excuse to support the privileged

WASHINGTON - Days after it got a federal bailout, American International Group Inc. spent $440,000 on a posh California retreat for its executives, complete with spa treatments, banquets and golf outings, according to lawmakers investigating the company's meltdown.

"Average Americans are suffering economically. They're losing their jobs, their homes and their health insurance," the committee's chairman, Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., scolded the company during a lengthy opening statement at a hearing Tuesday. "Yet less than one week after the taxpayers rescued AIG, company executives could be found wining and dining at one of the most exclusive resorts in the nation."

The bill shows that AIG spent $139,375 on rooms, $147,301 on "banquets", $23,380 on spa treatments and $6,939 on golf at an eight-day company event which began on September 22.

Rates for the 325 rooms at the resort are typically upwards of $500 a night and the travel guide Fodor's gives the place a rave review, saying: "Exclusivity and indulgence carry the day here; you can even have someone unpack for you."

I am convinced that Nomad exists.............and I haven't seen him.



I don't think anything will be done about the extravagance. Nothing was done to oil exectives and their "record" profits. Seems we have to just live with it.

We know the fat cats will claw their way back but so does the man in the street.

I have said it all before on other posts, but with the banks now freed up to lend lend lend, they will be churning out 0% or consolodation credit cards to the idiots on mass.

The one's who have not already learnt their lessons will grab these cards, putting all their debts together with a nice easy monthly plan, grab more credit cards, spend now pay later fever.

The whole roll will just start all over again. It is not just the fat cats, it is the typical breed of human who has greed as first nature.
