The information highway 100 years ago.

I was looking through my local paper yesterday and found a column that really interested me .
It was news today and then back through the years to 100 years ago that was published in the paper.
It interested me how a tinsy little town in the backwaters of australia would have or want this information................then I read the last bit and it dawned on me how much of a young country we actually are.

An erratically weaving car almost ran down a policeman when he tried to intercept it.............when the policeman stopped the car the driver was slumped over the steering wheel.

100 years ago

A most distressing case of wholesale poisoning has occurred at Mount St Vincent's Girls Orphanage at Limerick, Ireland.
The children partook of some bad food, and eight of their number died of Ptomaine poisoning. Sixty six of the girls are suffering the effects of the tainted food, and two of them are in a very critical condition.

The Waratah has left London for Australia with 720 third class passengers, including 110 assisted settlers for New South Wales.

Hmmm just thought it interesting.

I'm wondering if the last was just information or ........................The seedier side of immigration back in those days where children were left in orphanages whilst their parents boarded ships to new lives elsewhere. I was wondering if it was an attempt to lure back people to collect their children or claim the dead ones.
