I thought of this last night....I read Genesis and I can't see where Lilith is true, God created Eve from Adam....he didn't create another woman before Eve.

Re: Lilith

Genesis 1:26-28

Quote:
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [b] and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."
Genesis 2:15-23

Quote:
15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."

18 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.
But for Adam [h] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs [i] and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib [j] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called 'woman, [k] '
for she was taken out of man."
In Chapter one he created man and women, it's not till Chapter 2 that Eve is created. I think that is where the myth of Lilith comes in.

New International Version quoted.

Re: Lilith

The creation story itself is a myth. The question to be asked is "What does it mean?"

Is it perhaps that everything is a myth and that each person chooses the myth s/he will live by? And if this were so, then no individual story, or myth, would be more true, or false, than another? And maybe, the question, "What does it mean?" is a question for each to ask her/himself?

Yup. I've heard of her and there is a similar lady in Celtic mythology. When you look into all the myths of the world, some of them aren't that far removed.

Apparently, Lilith was the first wife of Adam but refused to sleep with him, so was cast off as evil (or something negative anyway.) I think this has been edited out of the bible that exists today, as so much has been that wasn't deemed suitable.

Celtic Mythology refers to Blodeuedd (Blod-u-eth) as being created from flowers to become the wife of Lugh, (or Llew Llaw Gyffes in the Mabinogion) who was cursed never to marry a mortal woman. She later betrayed him with Grawn or Goronwy, with whom she fell in love. The only way to kill Llew however, (the only way to obtain her freedom)was to pierce him with a spear whilst he was standing with one leg on a cauldron and the other on a goat. Somehow she persuaded him to show her exactly how he could be slain, unbeknown to him, grawn was waiting with a spear.

However, the unlucky Llew transformed into an eagle and was later revived, while the unfortunate and unfaithful Blodeuedd was cursed to spend life as an owl.

So if my wife asks me to put one foot on a goat and the other foot on a caulron, I should be worried?

No, but often the mistresses never make the history books. Maybe Lilith was Adam’s little fling on the side.
Ya that’s it, now we are getting to the real reason they were all kicked out of the garden of Eden…
