Chosen means 'rare'.

To read it and use it as a stand alone verse/principle removes the context, the passage before it relates to the compelling in of people to attend a grand wedding cerimony.

Matthew 24:14

For many are called, but few [are] chosen.

All are called, the ones who respond are called the chosen. It literally means 'rare ones'.

The verse correctly translated (my paraphrase) says: 'I asked everybody, invited and compelled them to come only these few rare ones responded.'
