Any good books on Wicca?

I'm wondering if there are any good books out there that:

1. Gives some honest, clear information about the origins of Wicca and modern witchcraft in general, concentrating on separating fact from fiction, not necessarily defending Wicca, and citing primary sources, not some book that was written by someone else who in turn just cited someone else's book.

2. But, is not written from a Christian perspective with an axe to grind.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

I would suggest any of the books by Ted Andrews for a simple and plain introductory version of things wiccan. If you are interested in knowing about the rituals, how and why to perform them, I would suggest "A Witches Bible Compleat" by Janet and Stewart Farrar.

Thanks. I'm certainly familiar with those names. And I'll look into those, though, do Morgan Llewellyn or Silver Ravenwolf (for example) necessarily speak for all or most Wiccans? This has been the problem with trying to research Wicca using sources actually by Wiccans.

That's kind of a tough one to answer as I have found that wiccans all seem to have their own tweaks and don't all fall in the same category...but if hardpressed, I'd say those authors are about as close as you can get to an overall voice for wiccans in general.

Are you thinking of studying wicca or maybe writing a research paper?

Not writing a paper, no, just up to the challenge of trying my best to pin down and define something on which there seems to be quite a frustrating lack of any kind of consensus.

And I'm not totally new here. Some of the other posters here have actually known me for a while, not that any of them would admit to it.

Oh I guess you aren't new! I just saw your post count. I've been here since 2005, I guess I just haven't seen you. Well, nice to meet you anyway.

I think with Wicca, one of the obstacles is that there are many traditions...Dianic, Gardnerian, Eclectic, etc....they are all a little bit dfferent, believe a little differently than the next.
