Re: what would you ask HIM/HER?
I don't really think we can have it two ways. Either we want free will or we want our lives planned out for us and we become the automatons. Personally I want freedom.

Re: what would you ask HIM/HER?
I supose It time for me to come clean as to why i asked this question.
I've asked this question of others in real life and I didn't expect all the answers that were given. I was actually stunned to find that the answers reflected the desperation and sadness, and deeper thoughts of human beings. I think we tend to fall into the trap of seeing God as an adult father Christmas. Like, If I'm good all year life will go smoothly for me , or I'll have all the answers because God will bless me more than anyone else. I think we have to learn to turn that kind of thought process around. I've seen on this board many threads pertaining to "friendship" and the qualities we aspire to in being a friend, and the qualities we expect in a friend. Friends can't change the world for us but they will sit with us and listen, understand us and be there for us when we need companionship. and if we are doing the right thing they will stand by us. How come we don't ever put these same qualities to god? why don't we see him as a friend instead of a "fix it man"? personally I think it's insulting to God to ask all these questions of him. I think it's like giving him the position of a janitor in a large apartment buidling. Everyone calling him up to fix this and that. Always expecting him to come and do it. and if he doesn't get around to it, all hell breaks lose and there's complaints and grumbles and requests to fire him. I'm not going to bible bash here . but I think you all should be rest assured that every single answer given here in this thread so far has already been asked of God in the bible. Maybe it's time we saw him as a friend rather than the fix it man. Maybe he'd think of each and every one of us more if we thought of him a bit more as a friend. The next time we are in trouble or sad or confused maybe we should not ask questions but only ask him to sit with us for a bit..................there's strength in that. and here endeth the lesson ![]() |

![]() An excellent post. Wonderful. I tend to see Jesus as a brother and God as the power behind the universe. The Creator has been, for far too long anthropomorphized. I would not ask a question but offer thanks for life. Shalom Ted ![]() |

Quote:
What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer. Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer. Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer! In His arms He’ll take and shield you; you will find a solace there. Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear May we ever, Lord, be bringing all to Thee in earnest prayer. Soon in glory bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer Rapture, praise and endless worship will be our sweet portion there. I like it because it doesn’t say to take your questioning heart to Jesus, it says to drop the whole burden on him, I think that takes time, the time spent talking to God about all the burdens we have means time spent sitting next to him listening for his reassurances. |

Re: what would you ask HIM/HER?
I have to agree, too much is attributed to god and it is stupid to do so.
I was rebuilding a gearbox with my father when one of his friends turned up for lunch. He said grace and in his prayr he said, "And thankyou god that the gearbox went to gether allright" My father (a baptist minister) rolled his eyes at this. I mean come on if you believe in god then he gave you brains so that you can do it for yourself. thank him for the brains that allowed the gearbox to go together. Because If he was directly responsible for that gearbox then the question becomes one of why the hell are you wasting your time on something so insygnificant as a car part when there are entire nations starving. |
