It's funny that you posted this today. I just got on here ready to ask everyone's opinion on Rev. Phelps. He and some of his church members recently came to Colorado Springs (where I live) to protest at a high school. They are protesting because one of the students wants to have a Gay/Straight Alliance club. Rev. Phelps and 9 of his church members turned up with signs that said "God hates Fags" and others similar. I'm very proud of my community. While he and his 9 members came to protest, 500 people came out to oppose him. It was a peaceful protest (as peaceful as it could be.)
I know many churches don't believe homosexuality is O.K., but, to have the message he and his members do is outrageous. So much for equality.

I saw the ad for the UCofC. As an opponent of evangelical Christianity and it's inherent built in hate I was surprised at the ad. I consider Christian fundamentalists as brethren of Islamic extremists, Hindu militants and Jewish settlers. Why wouldn't the centrist media air the ad? I may be incorrect but aren't you a conservative? Bush supporters would be more likely to want to see the ad nixed. Confused in KC.

you are confused, because you seem to base your arguments on the stereotypes, bias, preconceptions, and prejudice you seem to have. which is unsurprising.

I do stereotype rightist religious fundamentalists. They are my enemy. Calling them out is crucial to abort their attempts at making my country into a one party theocracy. Anotherwords stepping back in time 400 years. The media isn't centrist? There is nothing liberal, progressive or especially socialist in any of our media. Capitalists own and control it. Perhaps I should restate myself and say I support a NON-capitalist media. It is encouraging knowing there are conservatives out there whose opinions differ from Fred Phelps.

I think the add is very, very interesting, does this only mean that all races are welcome, or are gays also welcome? I don't see why it was not aired; the stations air freaking Billy Graham adds and some of the other adds for more non-inclusive denominations.

i consider that nonsense. there is no such attempt at work. did you bother listening to the tapes of the conversations bush had with a friend before the 2000 election? he made it very clear that he was not going to be a lackey for the christian right. liberals apparently don't want to acknowledge that - frankly, it was a bombshell, but of course the (yes, liberal) media gave it precious little play, because, of course, it doesn't fit the stereotype, or the agenda to portray bush as an evil little christian fundie out to turn this into a theocracy. oh well.

if not, you'll likely receive further communication from them, but i doubt they're in the business of selling email addresses.
