Post Pope Benedict XV1 says NO

Pope Benedict XV1 has pledged to resist attempts to water down Vatican teaching and indicated he will uphold Pope John Paul 11's unwavering stands against abortion, euthanasia and women priests and will work to guarantee obedience to Roman Church doctrine.

Capt.

Ah! for the love of power and control. Who could resist. Too bad that the teachings of Jesus have to take a back seat. That was what I expected. Ho Hum.

Shalom

Re: Pope Benedict XV1 says NO

I think that anyone interested in the RC Church and its new Pope may find the following site very interesting.

http://www.matthewfox.org/sys-tmpl/htmlpage10/

I really would like to hear the answers but I doubt that I will.

I was actually kinda surprised when I clicked on this site Ted. Normally, I read reasoned, thoughtful and level headed responces from you, and if this is a correct link, I can only hope you have better ones to offer on the subject. It reads like the rant of someone foaming at the mouth with their hatred of this man. It doesn't ask questions of the man so much as it accuses and indicts.

I have no problem understanding Chris Matthews dumping this guy. The nature and tone of his link indicate to me he belongs more properly on Jerry Springer.

Seriously surprised at your post,
diane

If you didn't like the site, that I can't help. However, Dr. Fox is a renound theologian who has been there and knows what he is talking about. Sometimes the questions need to be answered.

If there is nothing to fear from the answers then there should be nothing to fear from the questions.

I do happen to know that Dr. Fox is well respected in many areas of the world. Sometimes people don't like the truth. He is certainly after the truth. I happen to like him because he comes face to face with the problem and doesn't couch his words in any way. He calls a spade a spade and that I highly respect.

If you didn't like it then don't read it.

Perfectly normal and respected folks can bounce right off the wall on a given issue. Fox has done that on this issue.

If anyone comes off as a grand inquisitor in his article, it is fox himself. The very nature of his questions reflect the 'when did you stop beating your wife?' mentality of a national inquirer reporter rather then, as you assert, a renound theologian. I mean, come on Ted...the popes supposed to 'prove' he's a christian? To whose satisfaction?

Fox hasn't accomplished anything with that article for me, other then to raise the question of what his real issue is with the church. The manner of his questioning left no impression on me regarding the pope, while it had a profound impact on my first impression of him.

And as for not reading it if I don't like it, I read quite a bit of stuff I don't like Ted, in order to better understand an issue. And since joining the forum, I read pretty much everything of yours I see out here, because you generally present the facts as you see them and in a manner that I, as a non religious person , can grasp and understand fairly easily. I really only went to the site, because you recommended it. Sorry if i offended you with my view on what the guy wrote, but they are my honest feelings.

Respectfully
diane

No you have not offended me at all.

However, I take what Dr. Fox has asked with all seriousness.

He has been very shabbily treated the the RC Church in the past as have other great thinkers such as Hans Kung. While I am not in the same league as either of these gentlemen I too have been shabbily treated by the RC Church. I have been lied to and misled.

I know of several Roman Catholics who feel deeply that they have been betrayed by the RC Church. I know that one priest has said that the church is in error and has been for hundreds of years.

That being said I think that Dr. Fox has very cleverly brought into the open what he was denied by the TV Station. I think in view of the past history of the church and published materials since the Second World War that these questions deserve to be answered and hopefully in the positive but in many cases I wonder? There is far too much secrecy.

Think for instance that Cardinal Law was ordered by both Joseph Ratzinger and Pope John Paul not to inform the appropriate authorities of the child abuse that was taking place. This was a direct order to disobey the law and hard to believe coming from the Church that is supposed to be the epitome of the truth.

What has the church to hide? I would be interested in knowing. Check out Pius XII and his relationship with Adolf Hitler. Why was the church so silent when it new that the holocaust was happening? There are so many questions and so much secrecy coming from the "seat of Peter".

Anyway, I think Dr. Fox had good reason to ask a few simple questions.

Shalom
