Re: Catholic Teaching...help

Are you starting from scratch, or spicing up a prepared lesson plan?

Get with one of your students, preferably the one you expect the most trouble from. Find out what he/she thinks is most fun about school & use that as a starting point. Just remember that their attention spans are measured in seconds under the best condiditons. Keep it lively and varied.

Oh yeah. Never show fear. They can smell fear.

^_^; Thanks, but no I've been teaching for two years previous. I'll ask what the students would like to do. I think jamie and I will be doing movie day every other week. >.>;; hopefully that will keep their attention.

I'm not Catholic, but don't you have to - or shouldn't you - memorize the different Saints' names? There's a game for ya!

Sit in a circle with a bean bag or some toy that won't bounce away if missed. Announce the name of a saint, maybe a patron saint and what they're the patron saint of, then toss the bag to another kid who has to name another, and so on.

Nothing's in stone. change the rules if the game would fit better in another area.

Re: Catholic Teaching...help

Well, that is a fun idea. Thanks, the only problem is that we focus on a certain thing. I dont know what we're focusing on now, but! I will be sure to put something like that to good use in our lesson plan! Every other week MOVIE DAY!!! ^_^ It will give me and Jamie some time for Nintendo DS while they watch TV.>.>;; I know thats not the healthiest thing to do. But we're doing movies this way the children won't get bored. Thanks for the advice

INTERACTION!

Doing the Tower of Babel? Have the kids BUILD their own tower of Babel as you learn the story, then have them knock it down. Do a pageant where each kid is a Saint and they get to stand up and say who they were and what they do. My mom was a 2nd grade teacher and she always tried to put the kids into the lesson. They LOVED it, and the parents loved it. Not sure how liberal your church is, but maybe you could even have them do a skit for the congregation.

http://www.catecheticalresources.com...acher_FAQs.htm

There are some lesson plans in there, with age level doctrine.

Now I was going to teach a lesson at Vacation Bible School this week (I called home for an emergency) and I was going to be the INstrument Maker from Old Jerusalem-tie in Bible stories about music, King David's hatrp, the trumpets before the fall of Jericho, etc. Then have the kids make some instruments according to age level: shakers, harps, panpipes.

March them around the classroom after, use that verse "Make a joyful noise until the Lord!"
