Congress must act on patient rights
U.S. Supreme Court sides with insurance companies against patients
Consumers suffered a huge loss when the Supreme Court ruled in June in favor of health insurance companies. The Court ruled that patients cannot sue their HMOs under state patient protection laws. Congress must fix the problem by passing patient protections giving all of us reasonable rights when a managed care company denies care recommended by our doctor. Re: Congress must act on patient rights
Everybody hates trial lawyers until their ox is gored.
This an an egregiously political decision allowing HMO administrators to dictate treatment options to patients regardless of a physician's opinion. I would never belong to an HMO where I might be discharged in serious condition, die, and leave my family with no ability to litigate. Bush was on the stump again bashing trial lawyers and trying to make the people believe that lawsuits and malpractice premiums are the sole root of the rising cost of medicine. What bilge. Administrative costs are going through the roof thanks to our convoluted and inefficent billing system. |
