Together in electric dreams
So what do you reckon? People in the UK don't vote because it seems to make no difference TB and his cronies can't take a hint, I reckon his days are numbered, not least because the labour MP's are beginning to turn on him. pack behavious the former top dog has had it. what about the US? Have the people lost control of politicians?
The internet makes a difference because the mainstream media can't control the content. Being able to talk directly to people in other countries and ask what they think is a bit different from relying on what the TV tells you. Quote:

Re: Together in electric dreams
I think it goes without question that the great British public are sick to the back teeth with Labour but a poor opposition with some of the worst leaders imaginable ( Major, William Hague, IDS, Michael Howard, Cameron) must take a large chunk of responsibility. Your average voter in Britain has always been a floating voter, not necessarily being totally loyal to one party or another, so they feel stuck, at not having a viable opposition, ie the Tories, to turn to in order to get back a managable Britain. They want a Government that will deal with THEIR problems( Health, Law & Order, Immigration) and not the ones politicians percieve as being important
I think New Labour have got it so so wrong but I dont see enough alternatives coming from the wet Tories. As a middle ground voter I should be turning to the Lib-Dems, maybe we can find a morsel of honesty amongst their ranks but I wont hold my breath Like I have said before here, we do not have a democracy we have a sytem of voting and British public wishes/demands are cast aside for the whims of career politicians, very wealthy career politicians. Why does it take an era to get important legislation through parliament, yet a swift couple of hours to get MP's payrises an "AYE" vote Recent frustrations have seen an increase in support for the fringe extremes, especially the right. I hope it sets alarm bells ringing in the respective mainstream parties, that its time to give the people what they want. Surely they are OUR servants, its time to listen to our demands. |

Re: Together in electric dreams
Britain has an archaic “First Past The Post” (simple majority) voting system that while there are only two parties involved works.
The problem comes the moment that a third party comes onto the scene and starts to split the vote from the people who don’t want one of the three parties to win. The probability then increases that, just as in the last general; election held in Britain, the party that most people DIDN’T vote for gains office. Britain needs a major shake up of its electoral system amongst other things and it is long past time it had a written constitution as well. |
