i love all music

We were having a discussion at work and somehow, the topic music came up. Someone asked me what my favorite kind of music is...I reply "Oh, I love all music" But if I'd have to pick a band/group/singer, I'd have to pick Korn, Nirvana, and Jay-z. I replied with that, and it looked as if the people I were talking with saw a ghost or something. Tony asked, "You like Korn?" I was like "Yeah!" Of course, he explained that he wouldn't have looked at me the way he did if I had been anything but a black chick. He was just shocked that a black girl knows about Korn, Metallica, and (my fave) Nirvana. I was shocked that he was shocked that I listened to that type of music. I listen to all kinds of music. Anything from K.D Lang, to Jay-z (my other fave), A-ha, 311, Brandy, and Korn. I have such a huge variety of music that it's hard to pick a fave...just depends on my mood. I listened to K.D Land and Tony Bennett (what a wonderful world) on the way home this morning and Soundgarden on the way to work last night. Some people say it's strange. They say that usually people just have one type of music, but i have a love for all. Tony said that he was just weirded out that a black chick listened to Korn...is that strange? (lol)

I agree--I love all kinds of music, so long as it's actually music. I'm just one of those people who is passionate about music, so I apprreciate everything--jazz, opera, rap, classical, country, rock--you name it, I like it (that doesn't go for every song, though). Music moves the soul. When I sing or play music, I let out frustrations

, depression, everything--it's very cathartic.

What a stupid and narrow-minded stereotype. So because you're black all you should be interested in is what...rap? Tell him he looks like a cowboy so he must ONLY like country music. What a bone-head. So since I am a biker and wear leather EVERYWHERE I must only like ear-bleeding acid rock, right? Nope. Hate it. I love Metallica, Pink Floyd, tons of country, certain classical music, heck, I even listen to Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow, Patsy Cline, Eminem, (admittedly very few by him, but a couple) and countless others. My taste in music is highly varied, so if that makes me weird, oh well. Tough noogies. Like what you like, and the hell with what he thinks.

I feel you. My son, his father is Jamaican, I'm Latina...listens to everything under the sun, and dresses like a rocker/hip hopper/skater..lol

I guess the typical stereotype of the young Jamaican man is to be a pothead that listens only to Reggae.

I listen to it all as well, thanks to my son...he keeps me updated on the new stuff, programs my ipod for me with all the new stuff, etc and even likes the oldies that I do!

yeah, Lenny Kravitz - the absolute sexiest singer (male) alive!!! I'm with you Shibee - as long as it's got a beat and I can sing it, I'm there. And I love that KD Lang/Ray Charles duet. Doesn't her voice just kill you - it's so smooth and incredibly beautiful on that song.

How refreshing to hear people listening to ALL genres.I feel so sad for the narrow minded individuals.Free your mind and your ass will follow.My friend and I are both in our late 40's and delight in introducing each other to new discoveries of what ever genre I'm enjoying Nu-metal ,Trance ,Ambient , Metal. And imagine my delight when I introduced my son to Pink Floyd in the late 80's and took him to his first concert .The joy on his face......

Its great when you listen to something and the hairs on the back of your head stand on end ...old or new ...may that always continue
