The Islamic Music.......

I can guess what you think you may find here
No,dont worry , Just wait and let me give examples of My best Islamic songs

Cat Steven Is my fav ever.....

As Cat Stevens, he has sold over 60 million albums around the world since the late 1960s. His albums Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat were both certified as Triple Platinum by the RIAA in the United States,Stevens converted to Islam at the height of his fame in December, 1977,and adopted his Muslim name, Yusuf Islam, the following year. In 1979 he auctioned all his guitars away for charity and left his music career to devote himself to educational and philanthropic causes in the Muslim community.

I would like to pick One song only for him , its my fav everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

YouTube - A is for Allah by Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens)

My 2nd fav is a brand "Native Deen"...........................Deen means religion in Arabic.

They consist of three young Muslim men who were born and raised in United States of America. Joshua Salaam, Naeem Muhammad, and Abdul-Malik Ahmad who grew up in Washington, DC. Their music seeks to inspire young people to keep their Islamic faith amid the pressures and temptations of daily life...

Here is my best Song ever for them,,,,,,,,,,,,,," Not Afraid to stand Alone"

YouTube - Native Deen - Not Afraid to stand Alone

3rd my third is Sami Yusuf ,he was born in 1980 in the city of Tehran, Iran. His parents moved to Britain when he was three, and he was raised in West London. At a very young age he started to play various musical instruments and enthusiastic in keeping interest in singing and composing. He was accepted as a composition student at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

And the best Son I love for him is .....Al-Mu'allim "means the teacher"

Irish surely!

Written by Frances McPeake of Belfast in 1957.

And what's wrong with Yusef Islam anyway :-)

Re: The Islamic Music.......

Hi Bryn, its still classed very much as a traditional scottish song.
Commonly described as a variant of "The Braes of Balquhidder" by Robert Tannahill "The Braes of Balquhidder" which was named after the braes, or hills, of Balquhidder near Lochearnhead, and has similar lyrics and tune. For example, the first two verses of this song are:

Let us go, lassie, go
Tae the braes o' Balquhidder
Where the blaeberries grow
'Mang the bonnie bloomin' heather
Whar the deer and the rae
Lichtly bounding thegither
Sport the lang summer day
On the braes o' Balquhidder

I will twine thee a bower
By the clear silver fountain
And I'll cover it o'er
Wi' the flowers o' the mountain
I will range through the wilds
And the deep glens sae dreary
And return wi' their spoils
To the bower o' my dearie
Lochearnhead, Perthshire lies at the western end of Loch Earn and is a centre for both fishing and water-sports: water skiing, canoeing and sailing.

I never said there was anything wrong with Yusef, just that i did not particularly enjoy it

Oh Buttercup

I love that version of "Wild Mountain Thyme." My family has a wee, little band called the "Tipsy Rovers." We have banjos, guitars, squeezeboxes, and some great and not so great singers. We always harmonize to this song. It's one of our favorite Scottish songs. We also love "Skye Boat" and

I also love Cat Stevens Muhamed. The first song that I learned to play on the guitar was "Morning Has Broken." I still have his records. Thanks for sharing

I think it's clear that there was a lot of "borrowing" going on - not half as much as Rod Stuart trying to claim it unchanged as one of his own though

I always liked Cat Stevens and still like him as Yusef Islam - a bit rusty yet but it has been thirty years since.
