    Alberta Clipper!

This is the result of an Alberta Clipper which visited us a few months ago. On average we get around 5 per winter. This time it snowed for 12 hours at 2 inches per hour. We got 24 hours notice of its arrival from the local TV station's Snow Advisory service.

    Re: Alberta Clipper!

An Alberta Clipper is the name we give to certain types of snowstorms here. The name derives from the fact that they originate in Alberta, sweep down across the border (no documentation required) into the United States at high speed (hence the 'Clipper') and deposit large quantities of snow upon us.
They are also invariably accompanied by low temperatures - usually around 0F ( -18C).
Very unfriendly action and not what we expect from our Canadian friends up there.
Please use your influence to encourage Clippers to stay in Canada in future
Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Alberta Clipper!

I would have loved to have that much snow here this past winter. We had an extremely mild winder and I always like atleast one big snow.

But after a day or two, it can melt.

I agree about wanting more snow. We had a very mild winter as well, again, and I feel cheated! I love winter but KC just hasn't had any real winters in several years. Other than the lunch lady in grade school I do know of the real Alberta Clipper. Strong NW winds that drop temps 20 degrees in an hour. Out here in the Plains weather changes very quickly. 75 one minute and 30 an hour later. Usually happens in late fall and early March.

    bizaro news flash

Here in Alberta we get these lovely winds off the west coast and up over the mountains they swirl down across the southwestern part of our province over the winter months and keep our temps bouncing around from -24C to +10C within a span of as little as 24 hours. Gosh we love our chinooks I guess they turn cranky and cold after they head south.

I guess you guys across the line can't say we never ..... share.

I appologize for me and all other Albertains for our .... coldness
