If it was just a silly press release, I wouldn't be so upset. But since it's something that was stating during a Ways and Means Committee meeting that was seen on CSPAN, I am suspicious.

I have to agree with the guy. What he is essentially saying is you have to spread it out, not give it all to certain sectors.

I work with industrial electrical control systems, automation, robotics ect. It's highly specialized, I can rebuild the fuel injection system on my truck, the dashboard. I wouldn't know how to dig a ditch. I've never been in one. I've never built a bridge or even a doghouse for that matter.
Yeah I can adapt my skills have more than one application but what in the hell do you do when you have so many people out of work? What do you do when there's 1000 apps for one job?
People like me in America stand a good chance of becoming unproductive and not by their own fault either. A few years ago Seattle made a big celebration of 6 new cranes at the port.
They were made in Korea.

I understand what your saying. But to not let one whole group bid on jobs due to skin color is not exactly the way to go. The country does need to do something that creates jobs, but giving folks who do not have the required skills the job of building our roads and bridges isn't a very safe idea.

I agree with you there. But what difference does it make? If one of the contracting companies get a bid to build the Alaskan Way Tunnel with 40% coming from the government and the winning bid is 12 billion dollars say. About 2 billion is going to be for wages. Suppose the CEO of said company discovers he can hire Mexican laborers for a savings of 10%? What's he going to do?

What about the Unions? They only have so many in their membership, where are the extra qualified people going to come from? Americas education system is abysmal. The schools couldn't teach you how to dig a ditch because a shovel would be considered politically incorrect and they probably couldn't afford more than one or 2.

The construction trades haven't exactly been what young adults have been gopig to school for these last few decades. The only solution we will have is to import labor, worsening the problem.

The current way we do things is not the way to go either.
