State sure slogan will 'shine' Term used to promote tourism is also considered a racial slur

BY JIM ASH
FLORIDA TODAY

With the controversial "The Rules are Different Here" campaign only a distant, painful memory, Florida tourism officials are about to take another risk as they reach out to minority travelers.
A national television campaign, set to launch in a few months, targets Hispanic and black vacationers with the one-word slogan: "Shine."

This is better than Dumb and Dumber.

She looks like a golliwog.

At least they changed the state song from the overlty racist and dated "Old Folks at Home (Swanee River)" to "Florida (Where the Sawgrass Meets the Sky)" this past January.

It only took them 44 years.

Way down upon de Swanee ribber,
Far, far away,
Dere's wha my heart is turning ebber,
Dere's wha de old folks stay.
All up and down de whole creation
Sadly I roam,
Still longing for de old plantation
And for de old folks at home.

Chorus
All de world am sad and dreary,
Ebry where I roam,
Oh! darkies how my heart grows weary,
Far from de old folks at home.

2nd verse
All round de little farm I wandered
When I was young,
Den many happy days I squandered,
Many de songs I sung.
When I was playing wid my brudder
Happy was I
Oh! take me to my kind old mudder,
Dere let me live and die.

Chorus

3rd verse
One little hut amond de bushes,
One dat I love,
Still sadly to my mem'ry rushes,
No matter where I rove
When will I see de bees a humming
All round de comb?
When will I hear de banjo tumming
Down in my good old home?

Re: Flori-DUH!

Oh one of the first books i had in my life was 'Little black Sambo' I had the whole set. I loved the way sambo made the tigers chase around the tree until they turned into butter.

Ahh that's a new thread " can you refridgerate tigers?"
